Publicity on probe riles West Palm official (Feeding Frenzy)

WEST PALM BEACH — An attorney for City Commissioner Jim Exline says the announcement of a state grand jury probe at city hall unfairly tarnishes public officials who will be scrutinized.

Typically, grand juries operate in secrecy, in part to avoid such damage, said attorney Robert Gershman, a former state prosecutor.

"An announcement by prosecutors that they're investigating a person or entity has the effect upon the public to almost take away his presumption of innocence," Gershman said. "It blemishes the target of the investigation. Even if down the road there are no charges, it has an everlasting negative effect upon the target."

Weren't they the ones who showed so much respect for Rush Limbaugh's privacy and presumption of innocence?

We must remember that Grand Jury proceedings are only super secret if they concern Democrats or corrupt city officials (the two usually being synonymous in So. Florida).

Ask any moonbat at truthout.org.

Why is it I immediately thought of ABSCAM and how some were found guilty and Murtha was allowed to walk, Abscam didnt hurt Murtha even though its pretty certain he was as bad as the rest.

Imagine, corruption in Palm Beach county Florida....a liberal enclave with lots of dimorats in office there. To even suggest crimes might be there is heresy as we all know the dimwits ain't smart enough to steal! (that is, ain't smart enough to NOT GET CAUGHT like their counterparts in New York & New Jersey.)

The Marines (and Navy corpsman) have been PUBLICALLY accused, tried, and convicted IN PUBLIC by democrat officials and the press DELIBERATELY because the MSM could use their exposure (and assumption/presumption/declaration) of guilt to manufacture opposition to Bush.

Palm Beach government is owned lock, stock, and barrel by corrupt democrat officials.

LOL.

I liked the following part and will dissect:

[There can be benefits to going public with an investigation, said Marc Shiner, a former Krischer prosecutor and now a private defense lawyer in West Palm Beach. Targets in state investigations usually are notified and are aware anyway, he said.

"In this case, because it's such a high-profile case and we know who they're talking about," Shiner said, "a grand jury is a good way to resolve issues and find out if the community thinks it's worth investigating.... It could be a good thing, to let the public know there's a good government watching government."]

In other words, the accused can now start the business of covering their ass*s, since the investigation has been made known to them and they are not "continuing to do business as usual", which in this case looks like receiving copious amounts of cash and gifts for "clients".

The second paragraph here is even more interesting. The publicity may work in the accused crooks favor and garner "public support", i.e. the press can spin the story 24/7 in favor of the accused crooks thereby alerting every democrat in Palm Beach County so they can apply pressure to call off the dogs. Then Shiner seems to realize what he's said and tries to cover his own as*, by the bs statement "It could be a good thing, to let the public know there's a good government watching government." If there was a good government in the first place, this wouldn't even be happening, lol.

This could go back to the Commissioner Addie Greene episode of last year. She had every race baitor in the country going after the Palm Beach Sheriff and told all black youths to "run" from any LEO.

Caused a big to-do and left a lot of scars.

Thank you, Robert A. Cook, PE.

devane, it has to do with this thread because the left cries a foul river when investigations into allegations of their wrong doing is made public. Yet in their warped world it's a must and it's obviously perfectly acceptable for them to do it to others-Marines, etc.

Not saying what was done to them was right, far from it.

Just pointing out the obvious...there has been no outcry whatsoever against what's been done to the Marines, etc., because they're the ones driving the stories, and that they talk out both sides of their mouth while the shoe is on the other foot.
