My Letter to Bill Keller
It is clear that you just don't get it. While it is true that you, as a journalist, have a right to publish what you deem fit, it is also true that national security trumps that right.
To expose a secret program in the war on terror, a program condoned by the Times in 2001 and approved by members of Congress is simply throwing a monkey wrench into our war on terror.
The average American perceives the Times as being so blinded by your hatred of President Bush, that you will even go so far as to compromise national security in order to score points against our president.
To say that giving secret information to our enemies is not putting more Americans in jeopardy is absurd.
You are unworthy of your post, and should resign.
Sincerely,
Nice. I refuse to write the slime a letter because it would be impossible for me to not use four letter words.
I'd like to disagree. IMHO, he does get it. At least as much as a treasonous bastard can get it.
Subject: Soldier Slaps the New York Times
June 26, 2006
Lt. Tom Cotton writes this morning from Baghdad with a word for the New York Times:
Dear Messrs. Keller, Lichtblau & Risen:
Congratulations on disclosing our government's highly classified anti-terrorist-financing program (June 23). I apologize for not writing sooner. But I am a lieutenant in the United States Army and I spent the last four days patrolling one of the more dangerous areas in Iraq. (Alas, operational security and common sense prevent me from even revealing this unclassified location in a private medium like email.)
Unfortunately, as I supervised my soldiers late one night, I heard a booming explosion several miles away. I learned a few hours later that a powerful roadside bomb killed one soldier and severely injured another from my 130-man company. I deeply hope that we can find and kill or capture the terrorists responsible for that bomb. But, of course, these terrorists do not spring from the soil like Plato's guardians. No, they require financing to obtain mortars and artillery shells, priming explosives, wiring and circuitry, not to mention for training and payments to locals willing to emplace bombs in exchange for a few months' salary. As your story states, the program was legal, briefed to Congress, supported in the government and financial industry, and very successful.
Not anymore. You may think you have done a public service, but you have gravely endangered the lives of my soldiers and all other soldiers and innocent Iraqis here. Next time I hear that familiar explosion -- or next time I feel it -- I will wonder whether we could have stopped that bomb had you not instructed terrorists how to evade our financial surveillance.
And, by the way, having graduated from Harvard Law and practiced with a federal appellate judge and two Washington law firms before becoming an infantry officer, I am well-versed in the espionage laws relevant to this story and others -- laws you have plainly violated. I hope that my colleagues at the Department of Justice match the courage of my soldiers here and prosecute you and your newspaper to the fullest extent of the law. By the time we return home, maybe you will be in your rightful place: not at the Pulitzer announcements, but behind bars.
Very truly yours,
Tom Cotton
Baghdad, Iraq
Tom Cotton, I would very much like to shake your hand.
Clap the reporters, editors, and Sulzberger in irons until they give the name of the leaker.
I sent an email today to Mr. Keller after he said on hate the nation this morning that he would do it all over again. Today, with this statement, he told the people of New York, that he Bill Keller will continue to provide secrets to AQ, even if it means risking their lives. I suggested that if the NYTimes wants to fix the pickle they are in, its easy. Tomorrow's paper must have the headine, above the fold:
TRAITORS (and list their 20 sources).
Keller is digging a great big whole for MSM, and MSM is quickly following its leader like rats into the big pit. Today's talking heads all defended Keller; funny, they sure took a different tune with the Val Plame, non-spy story, a few years ago. The american people are finally waking up and seeing who the enemy is in this country, and it is the NYTimes and their treasonous cohorts in the left wing, hate america, media.
According to an article in World Net Daily, Bill Keller is giving President Bush the finger. He says he would publish the article again:
N.Y. Times editor: I'd publish it again
http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=50888
In a better world, Keller and his boss would be offered a blindfold and a cigarette.
Here's an aspect I have not heard mentioned in this ongoing discussion over the past week: if the government had NOT instituted every effort to track the money, the left - led by the NYT - would be all over the White House like angry skunks. This administration cannot do the right thing, by their lights - that's CRUCIAL. And this story is the proof that being against the President is the only important thing. 9/11? That doesn't matter! In a way, it's a good thing. The people who have been resolutely unprepared to admit to media bias - ESPECIALLY in regard to the Times - must pay attention to this. These fools have overstepped themselves and it's a very great error. The cat is out of the bag (phrase-maker!) now. To those of us who pay attention and have been aware of this bias against the right all our lives, this is nothing new. It's only the scale that's larger, and the complete lack of subtlety, and that puts it into enough relief that others must realize it, now.
| Bill Keller is an idiot. In the same breath on Face the Nation yesterday he said: "This is the most secretive White House we've had since the Nixon White House and I think they're a little embarrassed that they've had so must trouble holding on to their secrets." Now think about that Bill, if they cannot hold on to their secrets then they are the most OPEN White House you fool. The left is trying to make it look like an administration that tries to keep from leaking is a bad thing. It's a good thing! |
