Because We Don't Know Jack (Part 2)
Irey for Congress ^ | 7/1/06 | Campaign

Posted on 07/01/2006 11:21:30 AM PDT by Coop

Last weekend, it was widely reported, Jack Murtha was one of a handful of political leaders who called senior officials of the New York Times to urge them not to publish the story. But in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Monday, June 25, New York Times editor Bill Keller seemed to suggest that Jack Murtha had NOT, in fact, urged the newspaper not to publish.

So the following day –- Tuesday, June 26 -– we asked Jack Murtha a simple question: Did you or did you not urge senior officials of the New York Times not to publish the offensive article?

We have yet to receive a response.

On Thursday, June 29, the U.S. House of Representatives considered H. Res. 895, a resolution "supporting intelligence and law enforcement programs to track terrorists and terrorist finances conducted consistent with Federal law and with appropriate Congressional consultation and specifically condemning the disclosure and publication of classified information that impairs the international fight against terrorism and needlessly exposes Americans to the threat of further terror attacks by revealing a crucial method by which terrorists are traced through their finances."

In other words, this was a resolution that would put the House on record in the matter of sensitive leaks of national security information regarding financial tracking of terrorist activities. A "YES" vote in support of the resolution would be an indication that a Member thought the decision of the New York Times editors to publish their article was the wrong thing to do.

Surely, a political leader who had called a senior official of the New York Times to urge him not to publish a sensitive article based on illegal leaks of highly classified material would vote in support of such a resolution, wouldn’t he?

And yet … and yet Jack Murtha voted "NO" on the resolution
(which, despite his "NO" vote, passed by a 227-183 margin –- with 17 Democrats voting in the affirmative).

Today’s question for Jack Murtha:

If you DID urge senior officials of the New York Times not to publish an article based on illegal leaks of highly classified material, why would you vote "NO" on H. Res. 895?

*An ongoing investigation of Jack Murtha, brought to you by Diana Irey for Congress.

I think Jack Murtha is in a tough spot. If he stops flinging red meat to the Moonbat Left, they will turn on him in a heartbeat, just as they have turned on Joe Leiberman

Jack had his snout buried in the trough. His Brother "Kit" has made over $20 Million on contracts that supposedly have to be approved by Jack's committee. Jack cannot be bothered with tearing down military if it gives him more pork. Oink oink.

Jack can not afford to look like he was pro-war. He was so busy milking the cash defense budget cow. Now that America needs that cow, Murtha thinks he owns it.

Are there any defense contractors in Jack's district?
His brother works out of a DC "consulting*" firm (* = pass through for bribes?).

I bet Jack has obtained more defense contractor money for himself and his brother rather than for his district. He has Randy "Duke" Cunninghan written all over him. We can't count on any scandals being discovered or pressed between now and election day. The pols in DC seem to call a moratorium for incumbent job security. Besides I think Jack is shielding some republicans from the Abramoff deal just so they'll help save his sorry hide.

Jack tells America our troops have mad cow disease and this is what he and the left see as our salvation.

2 Things...

I just saw on Fox News that the turncoat, Webb from Virginia gave the Democratic Reponse today...

Of course, President Bush gave a speech about our forefathers and what they accomplished...and how brave they were...and how our troops are carrying on that tradition..

But, Webb, in his speech talks about how we have to get out of the MISTAKE Iraq...NOW..blah, blah.

So.......since the Dems have put up a senatorial candidate...some how the GOP has GOT to get some kind of national message out by Irey...

Also..on the Beltway Boys...there will be NO retirements at the SCOTUS in at least the next year..and probably through the 2007-2008 session....SO, the dems have talked Stevens, who was born in 1920...and Ginsberg, who has cancer, to stay on until Bush leaves, it sounds like...

Which MEANS...that ridiculous rulings like we had last week...that could subject our troops to war crimes trials...will STILL be made.

"
since I heard the Keller interview clips, I've wondered: who in God's name authorized Murtha to call the NYT on behalf of the Administration ? Makes absolutely NO sense"

The administration would like nothing more than to get rid of one of its biggest critics. Maybe they were trying to set murtha up
