Actually, I heard the Governor of one of the border states (I've forgotten which one, I was exercising and only partially paying attention) say that it's not a true report and that his state alone has close to 1,000 troops on the border.
Someone else at FNC said this report was clearly not true and had some stats to back it up. I think it was reported on Thursday.
A good example of a Bush wet dream.
I live on the highway to Mexico, there are that many around here. There can't be that many humvees moving w/o drivers.
We want nothing less than Securing our Boarder First. Then enforcing current law which fines companies that hire illegals.
Don't trust the Senate or the President on this issue. They have sold our sovernty out and now we have to deal with illegal invaders.
6000 National Guard troops to the border was a sham to begin with. Once you read the "fine print" you can come to the conclusion it was meant to TRY to appease the anti-ILLEGAL immigration crowd (count me in).
So-called (after endless recounts) Gov. Christine Gregoire said she will not compel any of the state's National Guard troops to serve on the Mexican border if they're asked.
"I'm not going to force any National Guard member to go there...if I have volunteers who want to, we will support their request."
Should we expect anything less when you "elect" a limp-wristed-milquetoast Leftist to the People's Republic of the State of Washington (California-lite)?:
Yup, let's just pick and choose what issues we will participate in. Is it a case so she won't anger the infestation of illegals in her state. If so, she cowardly puts the monkey on the backs of the Guard by letting them make the choice -- "...anybody feel like getting up this morning to protect the borders...?"
Bait & Switch. Promise us 2500 by the end of June and give us less than 1/5 of what was promised.
I know Gen Blum personally from the MD Guard, from where he came, and this is nothing new for Blum. He has a long history of making more promises than he can fill. Those who know him are amazed he has gotten this far without some of the promises and lies catching up with him.
Should be intersting to see how he pulls this off.
BTW - the Special Forces tab and "qualification" Blum has are phony. He got SF qualified under a reserve program where he completed "correspondence courses" and attended one or two 2-week training programs. Although I don't have direct knowledge of it, others in the MD SF at the time say Blum and several other officers had swapped answers to the correspondence course so they all didn't have to do the courses. Since he never did the actual work, it seems reasonable to say he is not SF qualified. It wouldn't be hard to produce people who could verify this.
There were lots of good people who qualified through this program but most view Blum as a phony. All of the good ones I ever met did the work themselves and properly.
He claims to have "commanded an SF A-Team" but never really did so for more than a few weekends back in the late 1970's. I know this first hand.
He also claims to have "Commanded at every level" but this is also false. Desides platoon/detachment level he has never commanded at "company level" either. This would be fairly simple to provde; have him state the company he says he commanded.
His time in the 19th and 20th Special Forces in the Maryland Guard he was mostly as a full-time Operations and Training staff officer and later the MD Army Guard recruiting officer. His first actual command was as a Infantry Battalion commander. He also had an attendance scandal that occured during his command but broke just after he moved on with the next Bn commander taking the heat for it. During the scandal a CPT Pat Kinsey, who commanded a line company in Greenbelt, MD, allowed people to be paid without attending training. A violation of law. Kinsey and Blum were buddies but both were gone when it was exposed but it happened on Blum's watch.
His phony boast that "he'd have 2,500 people on the border" and follow-on parsing of words are typical "Blum-speak" from those of us who know him.
I don't believe the White House had anything to do with the promise or this number. Blum likely pulled it out of the air, as he always does, and now the heat is on to produce.
