We lived in Yorktown Virginia for 2 years and saw that state from one end to the other but never got to Delaware or Maryland. I am sorry now, of course, but it isn't likely to happen. We went to Missouri (beautiful state) last weekend to watch one of Mr. Ditters bulls buck. Lake of the Ozarks is nice, lots of smokers, you would love it.

It's stupid, granted, but Maine is beautiful and quite dear to me. I highly recommend you travel there anyway.

Sure, Maine is beautiful.  I have lived here for over 20 years.  But if you think for one minute that smokers are going to vacation in a reform school setting, you have another thought coming.

We have learned to keep our wallets shut to any business that can not accommodate us anymore.  By business, I mean a PRIVATE business such as a restaurant, bar or tavern.  Do you think we are NUTS?

I have to live here.  But others do NOT have to vacation here!

Would'nt want to go there, won't go there!Rather smell smoke than stinking fish!

Thank you!

And bare in mind:  even if a smoker vacations here, they have to buy cigarettes.  And with the tax of $2 dollars a pack and TEN Dollars tax on each carton, that will cut into your vacation money, BIG time! heh!

I just went out for breakfast in Rochester, NH, smoking or Non smoking? My daughter asked they have that here? The waitress says, Yeah. Love it.

Oh how I YEARN for the old days here!!!!!  Smoking or non!!!!  oh my are you lucky or what!

My favorite place to eat almost closed their doors after the first smoking ban in Maine in 2000.

The owner then invested in a very expensive liquor license to once again allow smoking and business started to boom again.

They then remodeled.  The place is beautiful. 4 big ceiling air purifiers.  Full menu. A beautiful glass enclosed non-smoking section.  Sign on the entrance door "This is a smoking establishment.  No one under 18 admitted without guardian."

It is a Sports Bar with the full computer golf game across the back wall;  bunch of big TV's.  Just beautiful.

But that still wasn't good enough for the state.  A full no smoking ban went into effect a year ago January.  I went once after the ban, was so miserable that I couldn't sit there like old times and enjoy the evening that I haven't put myself through that again.

And do you think the state will reimburse this business owner for spending his own money to be able to accommodate everyone?  You can bet they will not.

To all you smokers who can still go into town or the city and go into a restaurant and/or bar or tavern.....order your meal and beverage and smoke, you better treasure every day that you can.

Maine went totally smoke free in 2003.  That was my recreation:  going out for meals a few times a month.  It was wonderful.  I didn't know how wonderful it was until we smokers in Maine lost that right.

So, take it from me!  Enjoy the places that can continue to accommodate you and the ones who still have smoking sections!

I have like a cigar maybe three or four times a year while renacting, but have quit smoking over 12 years ago.

Good for you!!!  I don't advocate smoking.  I just fight for those that do and especially for private business owners who do NOT need nanny government telling them how to run their business!

One of the couples we had dinner with last night still live in Delaware. Neither of them smoke, but can't stand the smoking ban because going out is no longer fun, unless they go to the Elks, the Moose, the American Legion, or the VFW. This is a couple in their 20s (son and daughter-in-law of a good friend). The kind of people that one would expect to be going out on a regular basis, good jobs, no kids.......Now that dad is here on chincoteague for the summer, they will do the 2 hour drive every Friday to come hang out here, where folks can relax, have fun and be themselves without the nanny state breathing down their throats.

Sure!  Lots of people hang out with their smoking friends and it doesn't bother them in the least.  It's hard for a lot of people IN here to believe that, but it's true!

I'm really sorry for all the private business owners here in Maine.  But if you remember back:  didn't the anti's tell you that you would get MORE business now since there was no more smoking?

Well, I hope this is true, but it is NOT true for thousands of private businesses across the United States!

Here is one sign a private business owner put out side on his marqee:

The problem with this promotion is that so many states are going non-smoking that it's no longer much of a distinction.

Believe me, you're not missing anything by not seeing Delaware.....parts of Maryland are a different story.

Lake of the Ozarks is nice, lots of smokers, you would love it.

Not fair.........you know I'm not like that. We spent more than 3 hours eating and drinking with friends last night, never even though about lighting a cigarette, and we were OUTSIDE. The one friend is a cigar smoker, but his son and DIL don't smoke...hate the smoking ban in Delaware, though.

What used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant was non-smoking, I still went there....the food was great, prices were great and the no-smoking was the choice of the owner, not the government. If and when it ever re-opens I will never set foot in the place again..........the owner was a legal Mexican immigrant........but was also running a brothel that catered to the illegals around here.

I beg to differ with you.  Only 15 states have gone smoke free.  That leaves plenty of other states where one can vacation and spend their money.

NH and Nevada to name two.

I hear Hampton Beach in New Hampshire is GORGEOUS!!!!

It's just a matter of time. Otherwise, smokers around here wouldn't be having fits every time a new ban gets implemented.

Actually, I believe you are wrong. The anti-smoker nanny-statists, such as yourself, have tipped their hand and have totally gone over the deep-end. The repercussions are going to be ugly for your side, but delightful to behold for those who believe in personal responisiblity and private property rights.

I did not mean to offend you , I just meant at The lake of the Ozarks you wouldn't have to search for a smoking restaurant, they all are as far as I could see.

I love it when people who are known for fouling other people's air, and littering other people's property with their butts claim to take the high ground on property rights.

An overwhelming majority of people like their air clean and their property clean. There's not going to be a backlash. The trend will continue.

Today is July 1 and the start of the 4th of July weekend. I am sickened that my state of Colorado chose this date to enact the antismoking law for all public places (you know, public places owned by private citizens).

This country is rapidly becoming a "marxist democracy", if you can understand my meaning. Our Republic is falling right before our eyes.

I'm having a hard time getting into the 4th of July feeling I used to relish and enjoy in my younger days.

I do not foul anyone else's air.........the air on/in private property is not yours unless you own the property. When I invite you into or onto my private property you are still required to abide by my rules. If you don't, expect to be ejected.

The trend will not continue and the backlash is going to be bloody. The blood being that of the anti-smoker cartel, no longer that of the smokers.

You didn't offend me. I was just reminding you that I support the choices of the owners on this issue as opposed to government edicts.
