Someone here is going to have to explain to me how a financial database stored on a computer server in Belgium -- and presumably accessible by a number of people who: 1) have no security clearance through the U.S. Department of Defense, and 2) don't even answer to U.S. law under any circumstances -- could possibly meet the definition of "classified information" under Section 798 of the Espionage Act of 1917.

Let's see. Now why would a code like Purple or Orange
be classified during war when they only use letters known to all?
Or how about Churchills Operation Fish, when it used boats and securities (transferred to Canada when it appeared
that England might lose) which were known to all in banking in England?
You might try to act sharper than the dullest knife in the drawer.

Because the President says it is. That's good enough.

The financial information in the SWIFT database is not classified, though it is private. That we are using it to track terrorist funding is (was) classified.

The data and database are not classified. The FACT we were USEING the database WAS!
Kinda like the letters in the Jap code book weren't classified, but the FACT we knew the code WAS!
Freedumb of the press is no excuse for giving away national security secrets or procedures, classified or not!
