Although I have no argument with this editorial, I was hoping for some tangible evidence of Dems running away from Jackie M.

Democrats perhaps are realizing their mistake in pumping Mr. Murtha's antiwar views all over the televisions of ordinary Americans who now associate him with their party.
"Ordinary Americans" as if Democrats are so much loftier and above the commonfolk. I'll grant you most of them are not what I consider ordinary Americans. Mores the pity. We associate Murtha with the Dem party because hey, he is a Democrat. Just like Dan Rather he has now become a liability for them.. Here's hoping he gets the boot in much the same way.
