DON'T MISREAD THE POLLS: AMERICANS WANT A WALL (toe-sucking Morris gets it wrong again)
NY POST ^ | 6/30/06 | EDITORIALS

Posted on 06/30/2006 6:53:37 AM PDT by Liz

THE ISSUE: A comprehensive immigration plan that includes a guest-worker program. ("Base Desires," Dick Morris, PostOpinion, June 26).

**** No one with any common sense believes the Senate immigration bill would really be enforced. Rather, it would only begin another round of illegal entries into the country. Bloomfield, Conn.

**** Grass-roots conservatives, who worked hard to get President Bush re-elected........will not support a plan that includes amnesty. Lyles, Tenn.

**** The resultant population drain and strain on our social programs will surely reduce the United States to just another Euro-type weakling.........enforce existing laws that heavily fine employers of illegal immigrants. Then, restrict social welfare programs to citizens. This is not rocket science. Scarsdale

**** Americans feel they (not illegals) are the disenfranchised. No matter what the majority wants, politicians do what they please. Wilmington, N.C.

****....too much Clinton-ese has rubbed off on (Dick Morris). Lawrence Township, N.J.

The media and "polls" are trying to bulldoze LEGAL Americans into believing you're MEAN if you don't want illegals to follow EXISTING laws.

Morris needs to do what he does best - suck toes!

EPA enforcement got a big boost in the 80's when a few CEO's were jailed for polluting. Worth a try.

It would be a great start then we could concentrate on a good but much cheaper fence and surveillance.

The Administration is also not meeting targets for the Border Patrol although this piece is concerned with the promised 6,000 National Guardsmen. From Polipundit:

It Depends On The Definition of 6,000

The Administration plan on May 15:

Bushfs plan for stemming illegal immigration by using National Guardsmen in a support role called for 2,500 troops to be on the border by June 30, and 6,000 by the end of July.

LTG Steven Blum, Chief National Guard Bureau on June 1, 2006:

We kick off tomorrow morning. Wefll have 2,500 troops on the ground by the end of June and wefll have 6,000 there by 60 days later.

Yesterday, the best laid plans of mice and men:

The Bush administration has been unable to muster even half of the 2,500 National Guardsmen it planned to have on the Mexican border by the end of June.

As of Thursday, the next-to-last day of the month, fewer than 1,000 troops were in place, according to military officials in the four border states of Texas, California, New Mexico and Arizona.

President Bushfs plan called for all 50 states to send troops. But only 10 states _ including the four border states _ have signed commitments.

Some state officials have argued that they cannot free up Guardsmen because of flooding in the East, wildfires in the West or the prospect of hurricanes in the South.

gItfs not a combat priority. It is a volunteer mission,h said Kristine Munn, spokeswoman for the National Guard Bureau, an arm of the Pentagon, gso itfs a question of balancing the needs of the Border Patrol with the needs of 54 states and territories, and all those balls roll in different directions.h

What are they calling it now?

gWe now anticipate major waves in our deployment. There wonft always be 6,000. That will be the maximum,h Munn said.

There has been a lot of polling on sending g6,000 National Guard Troopsh to the border. I wonder how the polling would fair if you substitute g6,000 with gthere wonft always be 6,000, that will be the maximum?h

If there will not galways be 6,000 and that is ga maximum,h will there ever be 6,000?

Unless something changes fast, there is very little interest amongst the Governors and State Adjutant Generals to participate in this scheme. Yes, it is being referred to as gthe schemeh among those in the planning community. Well, there are some other phrases but cc

I wonder if Congressional Republicans are paying attention? If not, they do so at their own peril. The democrat attack ads will be blistering.

This is right on!

What really makes me laugh is this idyllic vision of a "guest worker" program. Sure they'll mosey on back to Mexico and then LEGALLY sign up for a "guest worker"program. Heck, they stay when they have student visas. It's ridiculous! Also this crap about "taking jobs Americans won't do" is also crap. They ARE taking jobs AMERICANS WANT and now CAN'T do because Mexicans will do them CHEAPER.

It is all marketing.
The globalist, "open borders" gang has no intention of enforcing our borders. Every time the true Americans in Congress say "NO" to amnesty, the go back to the table, repackage it, put out a propaganda release, and reintroduce it.
If those who are here illegally are allowed to stay, it is amnesty.
They can call it what they want to.

We are hanging on in the Senate, but we must keep the pressure on.

Cordially,
GE

Bush did what he felt he had to do to get the ball rolling. Even at tht he had the senate leaders to the White House cracking heads to keep it moving. Now the whole issue is moving to the right. Frankly, I think the sauage facory is open for business, but I don't think it will give us Mexican sausage, in the end.

EXCERPT: Some Immigrants Are Offering Social Security Numbers for Rent

NY Times | 6/7/2005 | EDUARDO PORTER

Gerardo Luviano is looking for somebody to rent his Social Security number. Mr. Luviano, 39, obtained legal residence in the United States almost 20 years ago. But these days, back in Mexico....he is looking for an illegal immigrant in the United States to use it for him - providing a little cash along the way. "My brother in California has a friend who has crops and has people that need one."

Mr. Luviano's pending transaction is merely a blip in a shadowy yet vibrant underground market....undetected by American authorities, operating below the radar in immigrant communities from coast to coast, a secondary trade in identities has emerged straddling both sides of the Mexico-United States border.

Illegal immigrant workers usually earn so little they are owed an income tax refund...........The illegal immigrant "working the number" will usually pay the real owner by sharing the tax refund. Since legal American residents can lose their green cards if they stay outside the country too long, it is useful to have somebody working under their identity north of the border.

"Sometimes the one who is working doesn't mind giving all the refund, he just wants to work," said Fernando Rosales, who runs a shop preparing income taxes in the immigrant-rich enclave of Huntington Park, Calif.

The income tax "refund" is almost certainly generated by Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) fraud, which as a "legal resident" the number renter would qualify to receive, especially if they have have or claim children. The EITC is a "refundable tax credit, which means the IRS will pay it out even if no taxes have been withheld or paid in. So the IRS gives filers who claim the EITC "refunds," even if they have had no taxes withheld.

These number renters can claim up to $4,400 for the 2005 tax year in EITC "refunds," most of the number renters probably claim this maximum refund. The Additional Child Tax Credit is another "refundable" credit which is no doubt routinely claimed by these renters.

For 2005, if the number renter claimed $14,400 in wage income, and three children, between the EITC and the Additional Child Tax Credit the renter would, without having any taxes withheld from wages, receive a tax "refund" of $4,898, plus have $892 credited to Social Security; in addition to the potential of thousands of dollars in California unemployment compensation.

Not only do I want a wall (big, high, thick, deep, strong, impenetrable) I will be personally willing to buy or fund my share of the concrete for it. I will also send several boxes of ammo to our guards on duty at the Southern American border.

From Boortz this AM. The House has found a winning formula with illegal immigration, and the senate and President will be on the losing end.

SCHUMER POUNDS GOP OVER IMMIGRATION

Joining the leader of his party, Howard Dean, New York Senator Chuck Schumer is accusing the Republicans of using immigration as a central campaign issue. He says it's like Willie Horton in 1988 and gay marriage in 2004.

The tactic is clear. Democrats are on the losing side of the immigration issue. What to do? It simple! If you're on the losing side of an issue you simply demonize the winning side .... for being on the winning side!

What some (not all) Republicans are opposing is illegal immigration. Does not Chuck Schumer oppose illegal immigration? Evidently not. He's also in for a surprise if the thinks Democrats are going to ride this particular idea to victory this fall. Poll after poll shows that the overwhelming majority of Americans have grown tired of the illegal alien invasion and want something done.

Running against illegal immigration is a solid issue...and Republicans are already winning with it. I can't see Democrats being swept into power on the backs of illegal aliens ... unless, of course, those illegal aliens vote! But at least Schumer is being honest. He wants more illegal aliens...and thus potential Democratic voters...to come to the United States. If he's lucky, maybe he can even buy them off with one of his taxpayer-funded government programs.

In some cases, companies are required to secure bonding to obtain work contracts. Now if a company is required to be bonded and has hired illegals using phony documentation, the employer probably violated bonding requirements. That would subject them to fines and crmninal penalties.

We might also notify the SEC in cases where we suspect employers at publicly-held companies colluded in schemes that may have included misusing corporate reserve accounts, concealing losses, inflating asset values and improperly accounting for transactions, as well as deferring profits into reserve accounts, improperly shifting capital funding to other projects, in order to hide payments to illegal aliens.

EMAIL enforcement@SEC.gov

The IRS, of course, should also be notified.

Just think how much money and TIME we would save just by having English the only language on a ballot..or a government form..or a voice mail..etc....we would save billions in signage alone

Schumer doesn't care. He has a fat salary, and an even fatter pension. Illegals can't hurt him.

Americans overwelmingly support HR-4437, vs the senate bill. The house bill is heavy on enforcement and alocates funds foe local cops. This, of course, would end the gravy train for fast food, construction contractors and retail, who have replaced students and low-skilled American workers with illegals over the last 20 years. And within a short period of time, many illegals would deport themselves.

Already, hospital ER rooms are closing, overburdened by uninsured patients, as five have recently closed in LA county alone. According to the Heritage foundation, the senate bill with the current amendment could bring an aditional 60 million uneducated people into the US in 20 years. How will any guest worker (anmesty) benefit America?

SCHUMER POUNDS GOP OVER IMMIGRATION

Schumer represents NY's ding-a-ling voters----these know-nothings kneel in obeisance to anything with hyphen attached to its name.

Hyphenates look to the US government to subsidize their assorted self-esteem problems.

Government money is the only therapy that helps mitigate their feelings of inadequacy.
