In addition to a new compound, Afghan National Police South officers received 5,000 new uniforms, 2,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles, 5,000 pistols, 500 police vehicles, and 43 rocket propelled grenades.

Attendees at the opening ceremony were treated to displays of Regional Command South officers’ strength and training. They witnessed crowd control exercises and a simulated response to an attack.

In the simulation, four officers reacted to an enemy attack by dismounting from their police vehicles and unleashing a torrent of firepower on the enemy’s position.

One of those officers, mother-of-two Sakina from Kandahar, said, “I always wanted to be a police officer. I saw one on TV when I was young and wanted to be one since. My parents are proud of me for being a police officer. Female police officers are rare, that’s why I did it.”
