Over the last couple days, I've received four emails from one liberal reader of these columns, repeatedly asking me why conservatives are so 'angry and mean-spirited'. I tried explaining that while anger is common to the human condition, in no way do conservatives have a monopoly on the emotion. To the contrary, I cited a recent study revealing that, even when controlling for relevant variables, Republicans tend to be happier than Democrats.
Since I was unable to prove the proposition to the reader's satisfaction, I very much hope he was watching this evening's Hardball. For the show provided a perfect case in point of Republican good humor and angry Dem bitterness.
Chris Matthews' first guest, in for an extended interview, was Tom Delay. He had been invited on the occasion of the Supreme Court decision that largely vindicated his redistricting effort in Texas. DeLay took even Chris' hardest hardballs in stride, answering cheerfully and with refreshing straightforwardness.
Fast forward to the next segment, featuring the affable Republican consultant Ed Rogers and Dem consultant Bob Shrum. In fairness, Bob has what to be bitter about, as is well understood by those familiar with his world record for futility as a consultant in presidential campaigns.
Even so, Shrum's raw hostility was breathtaking. The very first words out of Shrum's mouth, without so much as a 'hi Chris', were these:
"The real sleaziness of DeLay's approach was exposed --"
Matthews was clearly taken aback. He interrupted: "Let's get personal right away!"
Shrum would not be deterred, actually resorting to that most tired of attack lines: "Look, how do you know when the guy [DeLay] is lying? He moves his lips."
You could hear Rogers' protest in the background, and when the camera moved to Matthews, he was manifestly mortified by his fellow Dem.
It is hard to imagine how they do it, but they manage sink to lower levels of sleezy behavior with each losing election.
For many of them, I truly believe their hatred is pathological.
To paraphrase Michael Douglas in that liberal propaganda movie "The American President", Bob Shrum "couldn't find a coherent sentence (or an electoral win) with two hands and a flashlight."
Simple. Failure in the Democrat Party is cause for promotion.
Your post so intriguing, I'll try to remember to add the transcript. I can't wait to see if Matthews' "cringe" is evident, find it hard to believe since Matthews knows full well what a nastyass Shrum is...that's why he has Shrum on.
DFU SONG: Henry the 8th (Bob Shrum has a perfect record of 8 losses in a row)

I now have lost my 8th, I have...I have lost my 8th, I have I have
I've been a DNC shill and a whore...I'd been through it seven times before
And everyone was a loserman...I haven't won, no not one single time
I have now lost 8 times in a row...that I'm paid should be a crime
Second verse, same as the first
I now have lost my 8th, I have...I have lost my 8th, I have I have
I've been a DNC shill and a whore...I'd been through it seven times before
And everyone was a loserman...I haven't won, no not one single time
I have now lost 8 times in a row...that I'm paid should be a crime
I now have lost my 8th, I have...I have lost my 8th, I have I have
I've been a DNC shill and a whore...I'd been through it seven times before
And everyone was a loserman...I haven't won, no not one single time
I have now lost 8 times in a row...that I'm paid should be a crime
Loserman...loserman
That I'm paid should be a crime, a crime
That I'm paid should be a crime

Bob Shrum.......... genius, one of the chief architects of the collapse of the Demagogues as a national party. Granted, he has received some very bad ideas and candidates to work from, but they are also HIS ideas and HIS candidates..... and he has maintained just about a perfect losing streak for 30+ years........ this man's head is so far up his butt that Algore can seem like a "man of the people" in comparison. OK, let it be noted that Algore will never be confused for a "man of the people"...... but then neither will that barking moonbat Bob Shrimp, er Shlep, I mean Shrum.
Think of a 5 yr old spoiled brat that throws hissy fits because they don't get want they want
That is the Dem Party
Not liking the Republican Party and our policies is one thing .. but the lib behavior is very childish
I hope the next RAT presidential nominee hires Shrum.
You owe me a new keyboard.
I'll have to tune in to the replay. I've skipped this show in the past cause I can't stomach Mathews much. But this one sounds good. The RATS are bitter lately cause they check the polls 24/7 and they are behind again. Diane Feinstein was on some show today and when told about the GOP gain in the polls, her statement was ( thats just because of the capture of Zarquawi, that doesn't mean anything)...........
It's def worth watching. DeLay is refreshingly straightforward and undefensive in his answers. And the mortified look on Matthews' face when Shrum goes on the attack is priceless!
That reminds me..can a Clymer be shrummed?
LOL! Old Bob looks like he's bent over and ready for another hike.
More information required... are you talking about Paul Clymer of Pennsylvania? If so, how do you think he could be shrummed?
He looks like a character you would expect to find in something like Lord of the Rings.
