France coach Raymond Domenech has alleged that his players were subjected to racist taunts by Spanish fans before Tuesday's second round tie. He said: "When I arrived with the bus there were fans making monkey chants." The claim seems certain to reignite the racism row that has plagued Spanish football in recent years.
In 2005 Spain coach Luis Aragones was fined for making racist remarks about France's Thierry Henry and players have suffered racist abuse in La Liga games. Aragones' comments about Henry were the most high-profile and Henry was clearly delighted that France were able to beat the Spaniards in Hanover on Tuesday.
The Arsenal striker said: "A lot of people were speculating about Aragones and I don't want to talk about it because there is no point.
"But the best answer was the win."

Frankly, "You're French!" suffices for me.
The French and Spanish aren't really different ~ so how can they hurl racist taunts at each other?
The Spanish are an ignorant lot. They should have been making forggie taunts.
Mmmyeah. See, that's not what you think it is. Do you guys remember hearing about the Spanish primate-rights movement? Those aren't Spanish people pretending to be monkeys to make fun of you. Those are actual monkeys.
"When I arrived with the bus there were fans making monkey chants."
LOL!
That would be enough of an insult to start a small riot!
Racist comments, no it can't be! I thought Europe was so enlightened.
"French" is not a race, it's a mental condition.
There has to be a Monty Python catch in this somewhere.
The French team has a lot of blacks on it.
I really don't think minor degrees of difference in tans should serve as some sort of racial-taunt litmus test!
I thought Europe had no racism?
Odds are they haven't finished doing business that way.
The Europeans have done the old "ethnic cleansing" trick many times over the centuries. It's a vital part of their culture you know.
So, they're gonna' "dock points" for "racism".
Now, how will the PC police determine the guilty parties ? These European soccer fans are so nuts, they'll disguise themselves as their opponents and yell racial epithets just to screw their competition.
It's hilarious that these pompous clowns will "dock points" for "racism", but if one side starts a riot where people are trampled to death, they'll probably just let them off with a gentle warning.
since when did the spanish become a different race than the french?
You're kidding, right? For example, African-Americans are very sensitive to differences in skin tone, with the lighter tones lording it over the darker ones. If you ask an A-A to describe another, the skin tone is one of the first characteristics he will describe. Since eye-color and hair-color are pretty uniform among AAs, I guess it's natural.
Again, in Mexico, the light-browns (mostly Spanish blood) look down on their darker (mostly Indian blood) compatriots.
