56% is not bad especially since Cannon had a well funded challenger(although satan got in the way of him getting more money).
The big story though is the low turnout. With the massive local and national publicity, the Utah voters gave a big yawn to the "immigration referendum", that even tancredo/bay buchanan were touting as an immigration referendum.
It shows that immigration is not high on the radar screens or has much traction with voters in what is one of the most conservative districts in the country.
STUPID AND/OR TREASONOUS VOTERS!
Bush's endorsement isn't a Rosetta Stone to explain Cannon's victory.
...that even tancredo/bay buchanan...
Dane, if a meteorite smote both Tancredo and Buchanan, the anti-illegal movement would continue apace without them. What would you do then? Do you have back-up strawmen ready to beat in case you lose your two favorites?
I know nothing about the other candidate, I do know, however, he was smeared in newspapers, media and probably by GOP thugs coming in to "win one for W" as has happened around the country but one loss did not lose WWII nor the Civil War.
Conservatives who try real hard and lose then whimper away with their tails behind their legs never learned a lesson from the "Real COWBOY" (Reagan) nor from A. Lincoln, (who in case you were subjected to Publik Skool before 1960) who lost at business, politics and love over 30 times before he won, then lost his life over his strong stands.
God's timing is not ours.
I think you're being a bit over dramatic there.
How many points do u think The President & First Ladies calls helped Cannon?
2-4%?
Lose the House and we lose funding for Iraq, the tax cuts will be reversed and we'll have an impeachment.
I'd say that's important.
Was the NJ a primary GOP election
or a general election?
"That the President maintains control of the house and senate..."
A republican president helping republican candidates in general elections happens all the time.
But getting involved in a primary is rare. I could understand if it was some neo-Nazi, but Jacob was just a garden variety conservative who was more conservative on immigration.
I agree it's a defeat, but Rome wasn't built in a day.
Yesterday, illegal immigration wasn't even on most peoples' radar screens. Today, it is a major concern for a large minority. Tomorrow, it will be THE social issue.
If you stand for patriotism and national sovereignty, the trend is your friend. If you are one of the internationalist, corporate elite, your days in the sun are numbered.
"Lose the House and we lose funding for Iraq, the tax cuts will be reversed and we'll have an impeachment."
The GOP controlled senate has had plenty of time to appoint Bush's nominee's.
If you want to place blame, place it where it should be.
Hundreds of GOP nominees for different courts are still waiting for hearing and appointments and who do u think controls the schedule and agenda.
THE MAJORITY GOP SENATE.
Doh!
Is that a yes? Do u think more?
Fortunately, it appears you single-issue folks don't have the votes to torpedo the Republicans and flip Congress to the Dems.
Thats a pretty safe seat in UTAH.
Cannon will do fine in the General Election
You can't read.
I said nothing about Alito who is a great Justice (Thanks to those of us who unnominated Harriet Miers.
THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF GOP COURT NOMINEES STILL WAITING FOR A HEARING AND APPOINTMENT TO THE BENCH.
What about that do u disagree with?
Primary election just this past month.
Throckmorton spent $84,235 in 2004 compared to $246,552 spent by John Jacob. While unquestionably more, it's not nearly six times more. Don't just make stuff up, Dane.
