The United States will oppose any international effort to limit access of U.S. civilians to legal firearms but supports stronger controls on arms imports and exports, a senior State Department official said yesterday.

"The United States believes it is important for all of us to speak with one voice concerning the grave matter of the international illicit trade in small arms and light weapons," said Robert Joseph, the undersecretary of state for arms control and international security.

The agreement would also: • Establish more effective controls on the importing and exporting of weapons. • Strengthen controls over international brokers. • Provide for more effective stockpile management of weapons under state control. • Provide for the destruction of government-declared surplus and illicit weapons.

Ummm...ok, but what about legal firearms manufactured by companies headquartered outside the US? Glock, SiG, FN, CZ, etc?

No respect for the U.N. Don't want them observing our elections. Don't want them in our country. Don't want our taxes spent on them.

What is the impact of several American gun manufacturers moving their facilities to other countries? Will there be a restriction on their ability now to import those guns back into the United States? I don't know manyd etails, but I had heard taht many manufacturers were being regulated out of the country.

The international conference has triggered anger among many American gun owners, who have responded to a National Rifle Association campaign suggesting that the United Nations is trying to take their weapons away. Tens of thousands of letters have poured in to the United Nations from NRA members, prompting reassurances from Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Prasad Kariyawasam, the president of the review conference.

We don't need 'reassurances' from dimwit globalist puppets. Their lips are moving, therefore they are lying. Our own traitor politicos better watch their P's and Q's however. Any buy-in to international agreements that tread on our sovereign rights may result in the Tree of Liberty getting a good watering.

Mr. Joseph stressed that Washington seeks a "positive" engagement with other governments and supports the implementation of a recent agreement to mark weapons and create a registry to trace their whereabouts.

There's the money-shot. And as any student of 20th century history can attest, registration is ALWAYS followed by confiscation.

This would have the same exact outcome as the automotive industry over the last two decades. The foreign manufacturers will build plants in the US to make their products and thus employ more of US or Mexicans........

Well some do already- frames made in Europe but barrels made in GA or NH or wherever, for example. But I thought they still count as "imports".

I just wonder if instead of a brand new SiG going for $800, they'll be like $1200, even though it's a totally legal weapon.

I'm not sure of the "domestic content" specification that allows a product to be classified as domestic/import......

Last I read, Para was thinking about leaving Canada and coming in to the US. Since the Canadian's recent election, that's probably off the table, though.

S&W is making some cool stuff domestically these days. I picked up a Kel-Tec P3AT real cheap the other day that is made in FL. I think the US manufacturers just need to move to more gun friendly states and out of IL and MA. Off the top of my head, Missouri comes to mind...

Yeah, we're doing enough of that ourselves. We don't need any outside help. Thanks just the same, U.N.

I replied to a post a week or so back and said that "Coughing Anus" had a better ring to it than "Koffee Anus". How long has C.A. been in use?

It's so predictable. The United Nation's Gun Grabbing conference will find that the United States is the great evil where guns are concerned. Ugh! How much longer will we put up with the diapered diplomats who hate America.

If the U.N. was sincere, it'd ban any and all possession/use of firearms on U.N. property.

All U.N. premises security personnel carry pepper spray only.

Not long enough. However, it should be a FR rule that any reference to the current UN General Secretary be in the following form:

Coughing Anus (A.K.A. Kofi Annan, the Socialist swine who heads a freedom-hating organization that would like to disarm all Americans and destroy the sovereignty of the US) said, "...."
