BERLIN - A German businessman has founded an airline dedicated to smokers.

Smintair, or "Smokers' International Airways," aims to cater for smoking passengers, particularly from Asia, who feel they have been squeezed out of the market.

Its first aircraft are due to take off in October on a route between Dusseldorf and Tokyo and are expected to serve mainly Japanese businessmen.

.........

"It disturbs me that I pay a lot of money for a ticket only to be told what I can and cannot do," he said.

What's so sad is how easily even the most moral, committed Repubs and conservatives give up individual freedoms (dictated by markets, not by legislation) without a passing thought.

Freedom is won with blood, and lost by legislation. I'd prefer to put a hiatus on both.

I may have slightly misstated my position, particularly in the context of the Middle East: our Brave who defend our freedom to make overreaching and stupid decisions in the conduct of a "free" democratic (small D) government are making incredible sacrifices, though they shouldn't HAVE to be doing so.

Enemies abound, and so do stupid decisions made by an otherwise free people.

Even in that case, your sovereignty comes first.

I remember the days when you could smoke all over the plane.

Yes, and the stewardesses all wore those tight short skirts, and you always figured you could score off them with just a little clever banter and a pat on the ass.

Yes, the sixties, those were the days.

Non-smokers go around sniffing butts like dogs and finding things that "smell bad."

Now who is like a dog?

I honestly feel sorry for them.

You're just jealous that none of them have started humping your leg.

Necessity is the mother of invention - a great niche market for them

LOL. Actually, this may surprise you. I actually wish this airline well. I do support smokers rights to light up in establishments designed for that purpose.

A guy owns a bar and wants to let his clients to smoke........... Fine by me.

A restaurant......... same thing.

Let the market decide, not the government.

PS: The bride fido picture really just cracked me up.

Take care.

P.S: My wife is an Registered Nurse and a non-smoker.

She is always bringing home tests to show how bad smoking has been to my body.

Each and every time, we take the tests together and compare the results.

Blood oxygen level? Me!

Lung volume? Me!

Two mile run? Me!

After 20 years of bitching, she finally gave up. I am so darn healthy that she simply could not keep up.

I have been smoking 3 packs of cigarettes a day, for over 32 years now.

That is almost 1 million cigarettes!

As a pilot, I am required to have a physical every two years. It is amazing how healthy I am, even after smoking almost 1 million cigarettes.

Someone has been lying to the American public. Why?

No not lying, some people just beat the odds. Consider yourself lucky, doubly so for having a wife that sticks to you as she does!

Congratulations, H.

Somewhere in your heart of hearts, or Deep Personal Objectivity, you realize you've beaten the odds. There is plenty of empirical data out there.

BUT SO WHAT? You're still a free-thinking American, responsible for the decisions you have made, and subject to them.

Life is too short to make others' lives longer under dubious moral means. I, for one, wish you a long, healthy, and happy life.

God Bless,
-Jeff
