Guns are a social conservative issue? I thought it was a limiting of government issue as spelled out in the Constitution.
"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks."
Thomas Jefferson
They had to have one issue that appeals outside the 20% hard core social conservative base. Tossing a bone about guns is a lot easier than talking about immigration or tax policy.
I'm personally glad that since we gave them all three branches of government they've repealed the GCA of 86 and the NFA, so all they have left to address is the behavior of local governments...
Oh wait, we've had 5 years of nothing. I'm sure Party Loyalists will be happy to point out how much worse it could have been...
With the exception of some libertarians, I would say so, IMHO.
I don't think most House Republicans have much to worry about.
The Senate is another story. They stink. THEY need to be flushed out.
Keeping the Second Amend. as law , is a conserv view and issue. The rights we already have should not be taken from us by leftist radicals. That is why that issue resonates with so many fly-over states that have hunting, gun shows, gun collectors and people who actually believe in self-defense!!! Dems want those rights curbed if not eliminated.
