Mass. lawmaker drops opposition to Fluff (Marshmallow Fluff)

BOSTON - A Massachusetts lawmaker is trying to get himself out of a sticky situation by dropping his opposition to Marshmallow Fluff.

An amendment proposed by Sen. Jarrett Barrios to limit the availability of Fluff in schools sparked impassioned defense of the marshmallow spread, a lunch box staple of children for generations.

The proposal was panned on talk radio, and another lawmaker even suggested legislation to make the Fluffernutter — a Fluff and peanut butter sandwich — the official state sandwich.

Colin Durrant, spokesman for Barrios, D-Cambridge, said Barrios was abandoning the proposed amendment to the school nutrition bill. Barrios originally proposed the limitation after he learned his third-grade son was given a Fluffernutter as his school lunch.

"It got to the point where the larger story overshadowed or obscured his original goal, which was to have a discussion about what is a healthy and nutritious meal for kids in school," Durrant said Tuesday.

Before this discussion goes any further, I want to know whether Senator Barrios can sing the Fluffernutter song.

Rush Limbaugh is absolutely correct.

These people, no matter their label, are AUTHORITARIANS.

Well, since the esteemed state Senator is proud member of the alternate persuasion (aka Barney Frank'esc), I was very surprised to hear that he had a great dislike and outright hatred of the white sticky stuff.

You know the really sick part of the Fluff story?

Lawmaker Jarret is a homosexual who was given a boy child for his very own. That boy is the 3rd grader who was defiled by a Fluffernutter sandwich. This story is about a flamer who had a hissy and wanted a law passed against FLUFF. How pathetic is it that nobody seems to mind what this boy child is ingesting in that home?

That is a very clear difference for those who don't see a difference between the parties:

Republicans: War on Terror
Democrats: War on Fluffernutters

Oh yeah. That's a tough decision.

Sounds like an ethnic/regional thing ~ we always put jelly or jam on our peanut butter, and when Grandma was around, used whole wheat, or whole rye bread only!

What was this Barrios guy's proposed substitute?

Do y'all remember back in the dark ages when we rode dinosaurs to school and the government had surplus peanut butter? The lunch ladies somehow managed to put peanut butter into every meal - cookies, honey & pb spread, pb&j. We managed to turn out fine and no one died from being within a mile of pb.

I remember back in the dark ages when we used to drink out of the garden hose, ride our bicycles - er, dinosaurs - without wearing helmets, ate apples right off the tree without washing with antibacterial soap, roller skated without knee or elbow pads, played ice hockey in figure skates, ate peanut butter (our moms' great discovery in the 50s) for practically every meal, and somehow we managed to struggle through without the nanny-state controlling our every move.
