Ahhhhhhh ! This will give Senator Allen a much needed view of the nasty little Democrats which will help to prepare Allen for 2008.

These Republicans have been told time and time again they are going to have to get tough.

No better time than the present! ;)

With a lottery number of 229 I wonder if he would have been called? Does anyone know of a web site that lists the draft lottery numbers with their corresponding birth dates and what numbers were called up on which year?

Now, an interesting thing will be how many of this group are Virginia voters and identify with Webb...

FWIW, it's my heritage on my mother's side. But there's no way Webb will get my vote.

Just MHO, but I don't think it will have that big of an impact. We're Virginians, not Scots-Irish-Americans.

We were Virginians before we were Americans. We were Virginians more than we were Confederates.

Man if he was running as a Republican we would be loving this guy.

Really? How many anti-war, anti-Bush, pro-abortion, pro-flag burning Republicans have you supported lately?

None, but he would not be anti anything if he was running for Republican. He is a Republican. He wants to be Senator. Maybe once he is in the seat, he will vote as a Republican. Did you ever think of that? We certainly have Republicans who do that so why not democrats?

I don't think that is necessarily so...

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned how much he reminded the poster of McCain...and I find maybe 1-2 freepers that can even tolerate McCain...

I have seen this guy debate....I would NOT like him if he was running as a Rep...especially against Allen.

I guess I must be in a minority, in that, I DON'T feel it is necessary for a candidate for public office HAS to have served in the military to be qualified..

You just "damned" this guy with you praise, when you said IF he were running as a Republican, he wouldn't be ANTI anything...

IOW...he doesn't have core values...his values are based on the party he is running in???

Bah!

Maybe if he hadn't sold his soul to Kerry, Schmucky, and Dean to get the nomination.

I think that could be true. I believe that many people do that in congress. I would be surprised if you wrote me back and said that I was wrong about that. I am not saying that it is right. I am just saying it happens.

Unfortunately, I think you are right...however, it isn't something to be proud of...and when the person is personally unlikeable, like John McCain....

I think it will play heavily against them, in the Republican Party anyway.

AND, from the times I have seen Webb on TV...he is an arrogant SOB..and not likeable AT ALL.

But why risk it when we already have a candidate who has core values and sticks with them? Allen has shown me that he has a core set of beliefs that I agree with for the most part.

Why would you even consider voting for someone who "might" change once he gets in office? That's not usually why people vote for someone. Usually, we vote for someone and hope he doesn't change once he's in office!

It's a moot question anyway - Webb is now a Dem who seems to have anger issues.

It only lost by one vote. 66 of 100 Senators voted for it.

I guess I like him from what I have seen of him which has been during the years in the military and he always made great speeches and seemed really nice. I still don't understand the change to a more liberal stance on issues, but deep down I don't believe that he is a democrat. I guess politics again ruined another good guy. It is sad.

I am really disappointed in him. I know that being a Senator is really something he really wants, but it is too bad that he decided that he needed to change his principles for the job. A job that he does not even have yet.

Hopefully a job he won't ever have.

Politically I think he's basically a libertarian.

"Politically I think he's basically a libertarian."

That might explain his pro-abortion position. In any case, he definitely doesn't have my vote.
