"Do you think federal prosecutors would cut me some slack if I were to get to it and burn it, claiming "freedom of speech?"

No, because you don't own the original document. If on the other hand you burn your own copy of the constitution, there would be no legal problem for you. It's about private property; if someone buys a flag they own it, and can do whatever they want with it.

Burn it in your basement, Darwin-man.

Desecrate it in public, you should go to jail.

No, because you don't own the original document.

Then who does own it?

Once again ~ the USSC made their decision in the face of the flag in question having been the property of the federal government (as a material item). It was stolen from a post office.

The USSC didn't particularly care who owned it ~ they wanted it burned.

They can buy a flag, but they don't own it. If they didn't serve or stand at attention when the athem was played, put their hand over their heart, and shed a tear...they own nothing and for all intents and purposes should pack their bags and leave either south or North as far as the train or packmule will take them.

The flag and the Constitution are one and the same.......this is the reality. Buy and Burn a Flag in Texas and see if you own it....:) Hope you have health insurance.
