When I read this full-page ad in the AJC this morning, I wanted to jump up and shout, then go down to RBM and buy a car. Reality soon set in since they are a Mercedes dealer, but I am SO PROUD of them I could pop. Hope you enjoy this full-text version of the letter in their ad. Wvoter
To Our Clients:
We are sorry!
While we strongly affirm the right of free speech, the June 22, 2006 Mike Luckovich cartoon depicting the U.S. as torturers on par with Al-Qaida was very offensive to us. Moreover, to publish this cartoon directly above the pictures of the two brave men who gave their lives, willingly, and were tortured and mutilated in service to their country (and each of us) is unacceptable.
RBM of Atlanta and its employees represent a broad range of political, ethnic and religious backgrounds. We often see things differently just like any family, group, or community. But one thing we all are is American. And we are proud of it. Together we stand - to do anything within our power to support our country. We count -with great pride- a large number if employees who are veterans, and some who currently serve in the military.
RBM of Atlanta has been a long-time advertiser in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. We have signed an agreement, which we intend to honor, to advertise with them into the future. However, this event has changed the way we view the relationship. For now, we have chosen to spend our ad dollars to let you know that we do not agree with the editorial cartoonist of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and that we are proud of our country along with the men and women who serve us all.
In closing, we wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families of Thomas Tucker and Kristian Menchaca. RBM of Atlanta and our country owe you a deep debt of gratitude for your sacrifice.

Now--that is fine and outstanding. Next--pull your ads from the urinal--you don't need them.
Hopefully their agreement to advertise includes massive step down pricing as circulation numbers plummet.
Good to see there are still a few good Americans out there.
Kudos to this car dealer. Piss on the AJC.
Very nice. :-)
Luckovich is an ass. I hope he chokes on that damned cartoon of his.
Good for RBM. I anticipate lower ad revenues in the ALC's future.
I hear that. My own paper continuously prints Tom(?) Toles and if there is a nastier, more contemptible, less credible cartoonist out there, well, that would be pointless as Toles certainly breaks the mold. Getting worse would be, oh I don't know, earrings on a pig.
They have a contract and have to pay for the ad space whether or not they use it. Probably will not renew their contract however.
I just called them and told them how proud I was of them to place this ad in the AJC. I suggest we all do that. The receptionist could not have been nicer and very appreciative of my words.
HOOO-AH!
The Press has NOT caught on yet--they think this is still late 60's, early 70'as, and they can dictate what Americans think.
Awesome. Thanks for posting!
Not only is he an ass, his cartoons are crudely drawn crap. At least left-wing cartoonists Stahl, Horsey, and Benson have artistic skills. Luchovic draws like a kindergartener.
Understand--what a great job they did here!
So glad to see the other side speak up. When these "satirists" to villify the US when horrific, unspeakable torture goes on in North Korea and elsewhere, it makes me sick.
I called them, told them I was in San Diego but had seen the ad and that I was thrilled with the way they chose to honor their contract.
Thanks for posting this!
Brilliant!
