Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel
Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath about his networks recent ratings slide and has given notice to staffers that hes willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.
The cable news channels overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.
Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.
Ailes is said to be "fuming over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.
He feels production values are slipping and bookers arent aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.
A full-page "Now Hiring ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?
Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.
An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who dont will not. And that includes talent.
FNS Primetime has become tabloid TV and not worth watching. Get rid of the Natalee Holloway...Scott Peterson type obsessive coverage and cover real news. Fire Greta, reform Hannity and Colmes and find someone who's half as intelligent and informed as Bill O'Reilly thinks he is and put him in O'Reilly's timeslot. That would be a good start.
I totally agree. I used to watch Fox News Watch religiously and have not seen it in months because of him.
He once had some good insight, but he just hates Bush now.
Exactly fox is turning more into a soap opera rather than NEWS, I watch for news and would like to here more about news not everyone is talking about. There's got to be more news out there that they don't cover. Get it fox we want NEWS........... and good debates that last more than 30 seconds....Quit with the sound bits if you're going to interview someone give them a chance to get their point across instead of saying 5 seconds Bob.... argggg
It seems the past year Fox has been picking up middle of the road cast offs from other networks.
Even the other nite I tuned into Olberman who had that crazy AOL customer trying to cancel his service - it was a great bit....and Fox didn't pick it up til the next morning - at least they had the guy on - Olberman interviewed via phone and the written transcript. I think he was up against O'Reilly - but he tries for different stuff and this one was serendipity for a laugh.
Julian Phillips of Early Weekend "Infamy" would be my first choice to go however - he drags the possibility of any success on the early weekends down into the dumps with his personal vignettes - don't hire narcissists!!!
Smith and Geraldo are a waste of air time. I'd like to see the Judge (who is usually a "guest commentator") have his own show.... he's congenial and a very bright guy.
YES! That voice of hers causes my glassware to dance on the shelves.
That's why I don't watch Fox nearly as much as I used to...combined with Fox News Alerts that aren't of any national significance. What do I care about a car chase or a store on fire on the other side of the continent?
I didn't leave Fox. They left me.
All news channels ratings eventually fall...you can only talk about the same thing so many times, before someone will change the channel.
Yes he is, but he's a strong conservative and has a great sense of humor and sense of irony. I can't imagine Headline News has the money to be paying him much. Fire Greta and roll what I'm certain must be her overly-inflated salary over to Glen. Everyone I know who's seen him really enjoys him.
More Julie Banderas and less Kimberly Guilfoyle is a good thing. Cheez, I thought they were heading in the right direction when they got rid of that fat bubbleheaded bleached blonde and then they went and hired a man in drag.
They do seem to have the same guests over and over and over again. You already know what they are going to say before they say it. Also they seem to hype a number of stories. A shake up would be good.
I see a remarkable similarity between FNC and the Rupublicans in D.C.
The Republican come into power acting as conservatives. With overwhelming numbers in both the House and Senate (and the POTUS as well), the Repblicans want to 'broaden' their support by moving towards the center and left. They never, ever seem to realize that by moving away from the right, you numbers will go down as those on the left will never support and those you are leaving feel deserted.
A very good mirror between the two if I may say so.
i could also do without jamie colby and to a lesser extent julie banderas. i like megyn kendall and she should get MORE airtime and should have a primetime evening legal show of her own, more so than the oh so UNPROFESSIONAL fishmouthed guilfoyle!
Physician heal thyself.
Allowing Billy Kristol and Freddie Beetle Barnes to occupy conservative allocated space is some kind of sham.
If Lou Dobbs were not opposite Brit Hume which is FNC's steadiest program, his sliding ratings would be even greater.
Please re-read my email I sent you regarding your hiring of Geraldo Rivera, a.k.a. Jerry Rivers.
Signed,
A former viewer who kept his promise
Needs more cowbell.
How about Murdock in bed with Hitlary.
No more car chases...
No more missing blonde coeds...
No more celebrity gossip...
No more Geraldo...
Calm down with the "Fox News Alerts"...
Get a rein on O'Reilly's ego...
Stop cutting away from Presidential press conferences to cover the duke case...
Cut the mic on Hannity and Colmes when they and their guests start trying to scream over one another...
More Brit...
