Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel

Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath” about his network’s recent ratings slide – and has given notice to staffers that he’s willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.

The cable news channel’s overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.

Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.

Ailes is said to be "fuming” over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.

He feels production values are slipping and bookers aren’t aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.

A full-page "Now Hiring” ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?”

Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.”

An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who don’t will not. And that includes talent.”

LOL, I always tell people "I'd rather watch paint dry" when I turn the channel to HGTV, that is until they have some overtly homosexual couple, but they seem to have levelled off with that.

Too many commercials on Fox News Channel, now.

I used to not like Greta but hers is the only show I watch after Brit because I cannot take the screaming and over talking on OR and H & C. I like her tenacity but I do agree the Natalee story has gone on too long. I like crime stories and cannot watch Court TV during the day (work interferes)so I find her show really interesting.

Maybe Greta or one of the other hosts could condense their program into half an hour.

I'm in favor of not giving Molly ANY slot....everytime I see her I recall her giggling "I've got a crush on Kerry" act during election 2004 when she was assigned to his campaign....made me want to puke!

If Greta had only a half hour, Ted Williams would have to find a part time job.

Prime time? This prime time?...
prime time
n.
The evening hours, generally between 7 and 11 P.M., when the largest television audience is available.

prime-time (prmtm) adj.
Sorry, but how many times does Roger think we can stomach re-watching O'Reilly? That pompous clown must be on two or three times as it is. Same with Greta. NO WONDER viewership falls off. Give us something fresh to watch, Ailes!

Greta belongs on the Court channel. Colmes scares little children with that Night-of-the-Living-Dead look of his, and O'Reilly is too obnoxious for words (though Ailes should probably keep BO because he's apparently good for ratings -- at least that what he says).

That and stop the ever more lefty leanings.

Stop showing damned repeats, when there is breaking news, do something about the "gossip" stuff, the Natalee Holloway drivel, and the ratings WILL rebound.

Recent example of Fox idiocy: Last week when the Fox afternoon reporterette asked the man she was interviewing...about the two US soldiers tortured and murdered...if this had happened because insurgents were mad that Bush had invaded Iraq. In other words, it was Bush's fault. The man she was talking to, a CIA type, almost fell out of his chair and shouted, NO!

Really. I quit watching FNC because of crappy programming, sloppy news reporting and an influx of liberal retreads from CNN and MSNBC. Staff complacency really had nothing to do with it.

The first thing for them to do is eliminate that horrible rotating logo in the left corner of the screen--it's guaranteed to burn itself into the left corner of almost any large screen TV.
