Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel

Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath” about his network’s recent ratings slide – and has given notice to staffers that he’s willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.

The cable news channel’s overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.

Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.

Ailes is said to be "fuming” over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.

He feels production values are slipping and bookers aren’t aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.

A full-page "Now Hiring” ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?”

Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.”

An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who don’t will not. And that includes talent.”

"my only problem with megyn is the silly way her name is spelled"

Well, that, and her hair! Flat on top, scraggly on the sides. I do really like her, though.

I absolutely love XM.
Since I've had it (Christmas '04), I have only listened to regular radio when the local TV news simulcasts at 6 and I am still in traffic.

Generally my favorite stations are Fred, Ethel, Lucy and XM Comedy.

There has been a partial liberal bias creeping into FoxNews. Hence the ratings slide!

Correct, and in addition, it is the SAME faces as guests every darn time I turn it on. Tiring. The worst part is that they have forgotten what brought them to number 1 - the alternative to the liberal bilge that infests all the other stations.

Everytime there is a slight dip in Fox's ratings, people get worried, but over the long haul they always stay strong. One down month does not a problem make. CNN would be crapping their pants with joy if they could get even half the viewers of Fox News.

I disagree Amelia...

The Duke case isn't just a local case that's unimportant to the rest of the country.

The railroading of these three young men can impact us all....

There's no evidence of this crime...and yet they are arrested, fingerprinted and indicted.

None of us are safe if Nifong & this stripper get away with this.

I do Ethel, Lucy, Fred in that order and some Squizz in times of desperation. The 50's is great at times.

And those are just his good points! What were they thinking when they hired him in the first place?

They were looking for a Lefty to replace Jeff Cohen of FAIR. They had a few months of "Lefty of the week" auditions before settling on Gabler.

Exhausted. Great to finally meet you. The car air purifier came in handy today with this dreadful heat.

Greta's "panel". What a bunch of dorks

It seems like that panel has devolved into one-liner jokes that they all zing to each other before getting to the topic at hand.

She should do a real "legal show", something we could actually learn from.

That's what she did on CNN with Roger Cossack. Their show started during the OJ trial.

1) Bring back the chatroom ticker that once scrolled across the bottom of the screen. Viewers love to get involved especially during debates such as Hannity & Colmes.

2)Take a few calls during shows like Oreilly and Greta like they use to do.

4)There is much room for improvement during the weekends. Perhaps a weekend version of Hannity & Colmes with Ollie North vs a liberal.

5)How about Mike Gallagher on the weekends doing his own show.

get rid of GUILFOYLE for starters!

I think the only reason they hired her is that she is/was? married to SF Mayor Gavin Newsom. She was hired shortly after the gay weddings in SF.

#3) Hire Terry McAuliffe on the weekends to go against Ollie North on a weekend version of what used to be "Equal Time" on msnbc. That would really Pee off Howard Dean

So get one of your own!

The receivers are quite inexpensive now, and you can get a price break if you have more than one receiver in the family.

I never missed that program until they got Gabler, now I make sure I miss it.

I sure agree with you there! It is astounding how far in outer space that idiot is. I know he is as sharp as a bag of hammers and an ultra leftie, so I'm fully prepared for something far out when they call on him. The thing that blows my mind is that no matter HOW wierd the replies are that I can imagine him coming up with, he manages to blind side me with something far more idiotic or he launches some new incoherent conspiracy theory.
