Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel

Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel

Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath” about his network’s recent ratings slide – and has given notice to staffers that he’s willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.

The cable news channel’s overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.

Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.

Ailes is said to be "fuming” over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.

He feels production values are slipping and bookers aren’t aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.

A full-page "Now Hiring” ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?”

Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.”

An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who don’t will not. And that includes talent.”

There are a LOT of us here who DO care about the DUKE case... ..however, only MSNBC seems to cover it thoroughly and better than FOX.

You may find it interesting, but it's still not (or shouldn't be, because it is a local story with no national significance) national news, and it is a better "fit" for CourtTV than for a national news channel.

Maybe someone needs to start a Tabloid TV station for Natalee Holloway, the Duke Rape Case, etc.

O'Reilly's smearing of the Swift Boat Veterans is what lost me... That was it for me as well.

That finished him for me as well. I had already tired of his rather artificial "right down the middle, they're both wrong" positioning on almost every issue; once you've figured out his schtick, its rather obviously calculated and fraudulent. But I noticed who went after the Vets and I haven't forgiven it.

Amen to that! Get rid of all those liberal former democratic adminisration folks and you'll return the faithful to the fold who made Fox News ratings what they used to be or become another MSNBC. Fox has bitten the hand that feeds them when they hire folks like that.

My suggestions for FNC:

1. Fire anchor Shep Smith. He's made for CBS nothing more

2. Fire Wesley Clark, David Corn, Eleanor Clift and Ellen Ratner

----Fox News Contributors All

3. Don't give Brit Hume or Neal Cavuto any days off

4. Give Charles Krauthammer a key to the newsroom and plead with him to be on air whenever possible

5. Fire the entire Weekend staff and start from scratch

6. Make Greta's show once a week and give her four other days to:
- Laura Ingraham
- Michele Malkin
- Ann Coulter (2 days)

7. Hire a real research staff and report the facts of the story correctly.

I'm sure I could come up with more but I'm sure many here get the drift.

speaking of juliet, did you see her when Bill O had her on his show, and was drooling all over her? it was pretty funny that he was giving her crap for getting her previous reporting jobs bc her DADDY bought the station.

Quit giving "equal time" to the liars and I'll quit changing the channel.

The lies have enough air time, the truth needs more air time.

O'Reilly will never go conservative on every issue. But I love the way he's been hammering the leftist media as of late.

Julian needs to take that blonde with them.

Marvin Kalb needs to go along with Bob Beckel! Why do conservatives want to watch the man who wanted to try to persuade electoral college voters to change their votes. Roger, we have long memories!

A very cogent point. It's gotten to where I cannot watch Fox in the evening.

Hannity glad hands liberals, Greta is like fingernails on a chalkboard, the "No spin zone" is nothing more than arrogance on parade, and the rest is pure pablum.

They forgot their base, so Roger should be pointing fingers at himself.

I don't know how it happended or why it happened, but Bill Hemmer is not even close to an adequate replacement for Asman.

That was the most shocking personnel swap Fox has ever made. Someone must be smoking crack over at News Corp. to think Hemmer is any kind of adequate replacement for Asman. It was a sickening mistake.

Short updates with FACTS about the case is one thing but an hour of nothing but SPECULATION based on CONJECTURE is nothing but pap and should not be aired on "news" channel.

Dear Mr. Ailes,

RE: Fox News

Major reasons why I cut the audio off. E.D. Hill,
Major reasons I turn the video & audio off. Marvin Kalb, Julian
Major reasons I will not watch the show at all. The afternoon audience show
and the Saturday morning chit chat show.

Suggestions on how to improve your ratings:

Offer the clowns to CNBC......

Give Tammy Bruce, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin and Laura Ingraham a three Hour show.

Don't throw the weekends away. Reruns would be better then what's on now.
Meet Pat Dollard, talk to him.

I have a sense of loyalty to Doocy, ED and Kilmeade. They are the original cast of Fox and Friends. Doocy is smart and funny. Kilmeade is smart and has a razor-edge tongue when needed. ED has lost her edge ever since she got married. She used to really speak her mind on a lot of things I agreed with. Lately, she's started to again, but I hope she'll give the program more of her attention in future.

But they are the originals, and have made an important contribution to the network's success.

John Gibson is a keeper too. He pulls no punches on his show.

Megan Kendyll is star quality -- they need to let her fly!!

Perhaps Mr. Ailes should take a good look at himself before he starts threatening people's jobs.

Johnathan Hunt did such a fantastic job exposing the U.N. That was his story. Now Eric Shawn is reaping all Mr. Hunt's glory, and Johnathan himself was seen last night on a report, standing in a pile of rubble in Jerusalem. Real nice way to reward excellent work.

James Rosen is someone I greatly enjoyed watching, and I haven't seen him in quite some time. Funny, sharp, self deprecating and all the while being up to the minute on WH news.

Carolyn McKinnely seems to have a part time arrangement with FNC but if she is on the screen, I am watching. Now, there is one lady who looks like a real woman, speaks in a normal tone, and doesn't try to hype a situation with no facts. If I had a news station, Carol McKinnely would be a star anchor...and would be fired if she ever tried to look like the News Barbies.

I absolutely love Shep Smith. I will not argue it.

I like Bill O'Reilly and have gone back to watching him on a regular basis. Bill's like a temperamental boyfriend. He makes me furious sometimes, but he's far too fascinating to let go of...yeah, he's full of himself, but it's rather endearing. (most of the time!)

Brian Kilmeade is why I watch Fox and Friends. Read his book, The Games Do Count and you will see a stellar character behind the impish charm.

More Best of FNC:

Brit Hume (The most decent man on TV bar none)
Neil Cavuto (2nd most decent, the absolute nicest guy on TV)
John Gibson (what a surprise this man turned out to be!)
Jim Angle
Fox All Stars Barnes and Kondracke
David Asman
John Scott
Gregg Kelly
Brett Baier
Wendell Goler
Kelly Wright
Mike Tobin

WAIT A MINUTE:

Hey Mr. Ailes! If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Your new additions are pretty bad, with the exception of Harris Faulkner. Again, maybe you need to go look in the mirror. It's finally summer. People don't usually stayed glued to the TV in the summer. Doh.

Totally agree. Asman was on for a bit this a.m. and I heaved a sigh of relief. Hope Roger sees the light.
