Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel
Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath about his networks recent ratings slide and has given notice to staffers that hes willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.
The cable news channels overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.
Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.
Ailes is said to be "fuming over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.
He feels production values are slipping and bookers arent aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.
A full-page "Now Hiring ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?
Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.
An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who dont will not. And that includes talent.
I'd like to see a format change so Fox partisans are brought on one at a time
Mike control is all that's needed. Hosts should state the rules and advise guests that their microphone will be cut if they interupt. When given time, don't abuse it by hogging the forum. Abuse will mean a cutoff.
"A couple hints: Get rid of Greta, drop endless Natalie Hollaway coverage and other police blotter stories, and hire appealing conservative hosts like Glen Beck and maybe even Dennis Miller to spice things up a little. And for the love of god get rid of Juan Williams.
Also Wesley Clark, Bob Beckle...
HEY ROGER...I stopped watching FoxNews because your 'fair and balanced' theme has too many liberals for my liking and I DON'T have watch I don't want to watch - kapeeech!!
Boy you can say that again. I find it unbelievably absurd to spend so much air time on one (seemingly randomly chosen) missing person case.
TOTALLY agree - 1000-percent.
My reason for NOT watching Fox much anymore is the fact that they simply repeat the outrageously slanted anti-Bush/conservative positions REPORTED INITIALLY by CeeBS, ABC, CNN, NYCrimes, Wcompost -- with the "balanced" caveat that Fox THEN puts on a conservative to give the other point of view.
In my world, the mainstream media's INITIAL reporting is SO slanted, phony and anti-US that it shouldn't even see the light of day in the first place, not even for arguments sake.
As for the Sunday morning news shows, including Chris Wallace's show, they all offer the same ol' same ol' faces --- McClame, Biden, Frist, etc, who are soooooo predictable.
I stopped watching or taping them (I go to church, dontcha know) two years ago and havent missed a critical news item by doing so.
Bottom line: Fox has to stop mtaking its cues from the biased mainstream boys and girls or it risks morphing into a defacto sounding board for the beltway Democrat libs.
Can greta, heraldo, colmes, gabler, that clueless old woman on Newswatch, and a few other libs, and see what happens.
Get rid of the liberal Shep!
In Pennsylvania forests and mountains, it works fine, unless there is a tall mountain or grove of pine trees between my antenna and the southern sky.
...which is not often.
David Folk Thomas really should be in that group.
LOL...That's a perfect description of Jane Hall. :-)
"that clueless old woman on Newswatch

"Jane you ignorant slut"!
There are a LOT of us here who DO care about the DUKE case.
Me too but it belongs on court TV and not on FNC. Unless there are truly new developments it's simply pointless to have panels of attorneys on discussing a case where all the facts are not known. For FNC to allot so much time guessing at hypotheticals is just plain silly and takes time away from vital subjects that affect all of us.
Whether or not there was a rape and whether or not one party is guilty or not simply doesn't affect my life. It might be interesting but it belongs on Court TV or crime shows or spike TV. The endless "alerts" that are not alerts are a joke and very tiresome.
Neal Gabler is one of the reasons God invented the "mute" button on your remote.
That being said, he replaced Jeff Cohan on that show, who was actually worse, if you can believe it.
Whatever happened to Linda Vester?
LMAO!! She's like Billy Bob Thorton, only eats orange foods.
No more chaw. He always brings up his car wash empire, so I guess he's there to provide the business owner's perspective.
OK, now you've gotten me started.
