Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel

Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath” about his network’s recent ratings slide – and has given notice to staffers that he’s willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.

The cable news channel’s overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.

Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.

Ailes is said to be "fuming” over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.

He feels production values are slipping and bookers aren’t aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.

A full-page "Now Hiring” ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?”

Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.”

An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who don’t will not. And that includes talent.”

ED was showing photos from Lis Wiehl's and Mickey Sherman's wedding on Monday and she showed a group photo with her in it--totally orange face. No way would I have shown that one--she looked ridiculous.

To be quite honest, I only listen, not watch.

It's on XM Radio and while I'm driving to work, I flip between that, other news stations and XM Comedy if I am cranky.

I am an avid Fox News viewer. It's always on if we're not watching anything else. However, II make a point to watch:

Fox & Friends (just for noise getting ready)
Special Report (when I get home in time)
O'Reilly
Hannity & Colmes (until it gets stupid)

Fox News Sunday

Newswatch
Beltway Boys

I watch Cavuto and Gibson when I can, but the re-runs are on late.

In my opinion, John Gibson and Cavuto in prime time would be a big plus. Greta's show belongs on MSNBC.

I don't find Hemmer to be biased, I just don't think he has much "gravitas" or personal appeal. I've made (rather harsh) jokes in the past about how the CNN staff puts him on his charger-stand when he's not in use on the air.

But mostly my point is that he is nowhere near the caliber of newsman that David Asman is, yet somehow the pinheads pushed Asman out of the way and put Hemmer in his place.

I think Hemmer would be great with the 3 and 7 pm Shep Smith shows...just think of all the cash Fox would save on mascara!

"Get rid of Greta, drop endless Natalie Hollaway coverage and other police blotter stories,"

Is Greta still doing he Natalee Holloway story?

Roger should fire himself for his lousy management. Greta needs to be booted.

he closed one of his shows by mentioning the Swiftvets and then saying "those liars".

I saw that and perceived it as mocking the liberals. I guess it's all perception.

Of course I respect your right to your own opinion, but I can't imagine how you could have gotten that impression. He was clearly slamming the Swiftvets. He wasn't smiling or grinning as he does when he's kidding or mocking, he was sneering and derisive, he was deadly serious, and it was unmistakable.

Juan Williams is their liberal token.. if they got rid of him, they'd just wind up with someone just if not more annoying and foolish.

I never watch Hannity because of Combs and all the arguing back and forth. It's TEDIOUS.

Another Hanitization victim.

Why give Shepard an hour at 7pm?,,

CNN made their name with Crossfire at 7:30 weeknights so there is something in that 30 minute time slot that could take off

put Gibson on at 8:00 weekdays

put O'Reilly on at 9:00

put Hannity and Combs on at 10:00

get Greda a weekend show

rerun Gibson at 11:00

get rid of Clarke, Ratner and the rest of the far left hating scum because they actually turn people's stomach's when they appear and cause people like me to actually turn the channel

6. Make Greta's show once a week and give her four other days to:
- Laura Ingraham
- Michele Malkin
- Ann Coulter (2 days)

Oooooo...I like that one....spice it up with variety....
and they can concentrate their shows with subtance...Greta could use some help though. Give Susan Estrich a slot for comic relief and that raspy voice too....good for 5 minutes of viewing fun at least.

I must admit that I probably watch FOX about 60-70% as much as I used to. They are rapidly losing the quality that rocketed them to the top. (Total openness and honesty to facts and not allowing people to filter opinion in as 'fact')

In my view, FOX is allowing too much intellectual dishonesty on the liberal side to stand unchallenged. That cr*p was never allowed before.

I will only watch selected segments of Hannity and Idiot now because of the total mendacity of the lib argument. I swear, the only way one could believe what Colmes has to say must have the I.Q. of a rutabega or absolutely no knowledge of logic, common sense or what has happened for the last 10 minutes.

Fox is having fragmentation of their base, not unlike the Republican party.
