MIAMI, June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Roy Black, Rush Limbaugh's attorney, issued the following statement today in response to several inquiries by the media:
While going through routine Customs inspection of luggage at Palm Beach International Airport upon his return from an international trip, Rush Limbaugh was detained by customs agents after they noticed a non-narcotic prescription drug, which had been prescribed by Mr. Limbaugh's treating physician but labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes. After a brief interview, Mr. Limbaugh was permitted to continue on his journey.
It is apparent to me, at least, that some of the posters on this board have already tried and convicted him of hypocrisy at best.
Those posters think that because he went to *gasp* The Dominican Republic, that he went down to get some cheap Dominican booty.
Maybe he did.
But the definition of a philanderer is "A man who readily and frequently enters into casual sexual relationships with women".
Someone may be able to call Rush Limbaugh a lot of things, but the definition of a "Philanderer" is a term that requires some conditions to be met.
Posters here do not know that he readily or frequently enters into sexual relationships. And they do not know how casual they are. For all we know, there may have been someone who either went with him or met him that he has been seeing for a period of time. We don't know and he isn't saying.
Can you accuse him of adultery? The definition of "Adultery" is "The voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not his or her spouse". Again, no proof of this. He certainly isn't married.
You can call him a fornicator if you wish, which is simply sex between two people who are not married.
But I have never heard Rush Limbaugh denounce fornication although I have only been listening to him for a few months now. He doesn't come across to me as a Puritan.
As a matter of fact, if he was scoring cheap Dominican beauties and paying for it that would not surprise me. But that is his business as far as I am concerned.
And by the way, I understand the distinction you make. It is a valid point. But I have never read anything into the personality of Rush Limbaugh past his political commentary.
If he were asexual, heterosexual or homosexual, I wouldn't care. It doesn't invalidate the points he makes, in my opinion.
I am primarily interested in his political commentary. I did not elect him, I only pay money to listen to him, and he does the job I expect.
However, if I have an elected official representing me, I expect that person to keep their sexual mores to themselves and out of policy. I don't expect them to be spending time on my dime getting pleasured under their desks by interns. What they do in their own time is not my concern.
You make a valid point differentiating between fornication and philandery (multiple counts of fornication??), but it seems to me that the difference is like the difference between a heap and a pile. If a half-dozen pebbles is a pile, and a cubic yard makes a heap, and I begin taking pebbles from the heap and adding them to the pile, when does the pile become a heap? When does fornication become philandering?
I'll readily defend the man against pernicious exercise of the Law against him by biased, agend-driven parties, and I'll be listening to his show more in the future, and I'll defend his freedom to pursue his personal life after the manner of his own choosing. I'll simply do all of those things knowing he's of less sterling character than I had previously thought.
I think that is a fair and sensible approach...you can still get what you need, but you don't have to have him on a pedestal of any kind...:)
Actually...by the definition, you can be a Fornicator and not be a Philanderer, but you cannot be a Philanderer and not be a Fornicator.
I wonder if this non-story will get more attention than two soldiers tortured and killed. And that story sure died fast.
"Time for a fun little word game.....

CIGARS?

Same here, although it's going to be tough for Rush to speak to moral issues with this kind of behavior on public record. Kind of like Elizabeth Taylor speaking about the sanctity of marriage.
If he really was partaking of sex tourism (why was he bringing Viagra?) in the Dominican Republic it's hard for me to overlook, and I'm pretty laissez faire when it comes to private bedroom activity.
I don't know, I wish Rush was smarter about this sort of thing. He KNOWS the MSM and liberals are gunning for him, and eat this sort of stuff up! Dumb.
That's true, but how many times does one engage in acts of fornication before one becomes a philanderer? Twice? Is the line crossed upon the first act with a different person than before? Is it all a matter of attitude, i.e. one can engage a thousand acts of fornication but, as long as it is not done flippantly or readily, one remains only a fornicator? At some point adding enough pebbles to the pile creates a heap. How many? I don't know. Was it that last pebble? Maybe the half-dozen before it? Or the previous handful, perhaps? The growing pile kept growing, and NOW there's a heap; definitely not just a pile anymore. You can easily differentiate between the heap you have and the pile you began with, but the transition was so gradualt that there's no identifiable demarcation between the two.
This is that kind of thing. We know there's a difference between the two things, it's readily apparent, but it's not possible to discern where one becomes the other. The only way to keep the heap from becoming a pile, is to cease adding to the pile.
Actually it is, because of the stupid law you can't carry all your pills in one container, they must be in the original container and in your name.
Well, if those thousand acts are between only two or two dozen people in a lifetime and not spread over 200, 500, 990. Philanderers are adulterous or into one-night-stands. It's a pattern of behavior.
Listening to a couple hours of Rush today, it seemed clear he wanted people to link the Viagra and his being in the Dominican Republic. It was as if he was making the (obvious?) joke that he had gone there for sex.
Personally, I don't care. Rush hasn't been known as a moralist, just a conservative commentator on politics. I was wondering how folks found out he had Viagra and that leak, clearly designed to embarrass Rush, should be illegal under medical privacy laws.
Under the spirit of common sense, so long as you can prove you have been prescribed those legal drugs on your person (such as Rush can do here) there should be NO charges.
If there is a violation here, it should be with the doctor or pharmacist who may have illegally used his own name delibrately on 3rd party patient's perscription. I can "understand" that there is a greater temptation to violate privacy in Rush's case and, actually, that we know he was carrying Viagra proves the case of an extra need for privacy in Rush's circumstance. The law (or at least ethical guidelines) should account for this. Not everyone is a Hollywood star using a stage name and thus can easily use their given name on perscriptions without raising too many flags of temptation.
Agh. Completely, totally and unbelievably disgustingly true.
"DING DING DING! What do we have for her, Johnnny?"
You win the "Hello Nail Head Meet Hammer" Award!
Amen, I know many older people, who could get busted for it.
Rush was a victim of profiling
Didn't Bob Dole do that?
How sterling did you think Rush's character is? We know he's been married at least 3 times (maybe 4). Would one more matter?
Agreed....the DEA & Customs seems to think they have the power of the New York Times..........
NO! Obviously you have never been to marriage Hell....
Rush proves once again that he is the KING! Good come back Rush. Maybe airport security should check Hillay's luggage for dental dams.
