Mama didn't have to die.

No she didn't. You could have gotten her out of town but you didn't.

Because you're stupid.

You could have stockpiled some food and water but you didn't.

Because you're stupid.

There are many things you could have done but didn't.

Because you're stupid.

And probably drunk.

It is not like it was a big secret that a hurricane was coming to New Orleans. Anybody who wanted to get out of town would have had enough time to walk to safety.

It is predictable but sad that after decades on the government dole, a few people have become completely incapable of taking care of themselves. The literally do not have enough sense to come in out of the rain.

When people become that disfuctional, some of them will die. It is sad, but true.

BTW, how many more months will we have to wait until the number of people killed in NO by floodwaters will be exceeded by the number of people who would have been killed by the normal rate of rape 'n murder that would have occured in NO if the storm had not come? Or has that date already gone by?

It's an odd thing. While I've been broke, I've never been poor...

...

Now it's my turn. I hear the helicopter, but have no strenth to go out on the porch. I'm dying 'cause I'm poor.

I hear the rotors of the blades. I'm hugging Mama. Get her warm. Oh, wait a minute... That's just Congressman William Jefferson flying in to pick up the tin-foil wrapped money from his freezer.

I guess I'm screwed after all. I'm dying because I'm not a Congressman with a freezer full of money.

There's a beautiful dedication to her 15th child, Assinine,

I was goin' to write a ode to my chillruns too, 'specially my twins Shanda Lear and Chlymidia, but I was too busy tryin' to score crack and dodgin' Five Oh.

whereby she asks the age old question: 'And WHY is he lookin so blank?'

Not to be no gramma' nazi o' nuthin', but shouldn't that be "why BE he lookin' so blank?"

The poet should be forced to watch The Grapes of Wrath over and over again until it sinks in what true poorness and desperation is. And then I suggest reading Tom Brokaw's book "The Greatest Generation" and learn a lesson about how people living in the poorest possible conditions managed through hard work, faith in God, and sticking together as a family unit managed to pull themselves out of the hopeless situation.
