"It's the same thing that happened in 1896. Aldai Stevenson I was seen as too much of an Establishment candidate by delegates who wanted "Fresh voices," so they went with William Jennings Bryan for the next three elections. The result was that they lost the Presidential election for the next twenty years. Those who don't remeber their history, etc."
Minor correction, Bryan was the nominee in 1896, 1900, and 1908 (Alton B. Parker was the Dems '04 nominee). As loopy as Bryan was on economics, he'd scarcely be comfortable in his Democrat party today. He spent his final days here in Tennessee at the Scopes Monkey Trial, arguing against Darwinism. No doubt if he were around today, he'd likely be in the Fundamentalist wing of the GOP.

:-) You are welcome, FOXFANVOX! :-) I think James Taranto caught this trend. Few predicted the Republican tidal wave in the House in 1994 but we have had many predictions of unrealized Democratic tidal waves since. LOL

GOOD!! All the more reason to vote Sherrod Brown in Ohio this November.
1. Kick out a RINO.
2. Send a message to Voino.
3. Get a true conservativce in in 2012.
4. No risk of a Dem takeover in 2006.
Go DeWine! (Go HOME, that is.)

At this point, a Republican Tsunami would be nice. At least for those Republicans that can show some fiscal responsibility!

I agree. It would be great if this were a wake up call that spending polls low. Even Democrats can't get together in California to vote for higher taxes for big government.

I read something recently which speculated that Gore's not supporting Lieberman is evidence that Gore is sesriously considering another run for President.

Things are definitely looking up as far as the Senate races are concerned. The Dems are in for a fight in more seats than they'd like and their resources are spread too thin. Washington, Minnesota, NJ, and to a lesser extent, Maryland and Michigan, are looking like realistic takeover opportunities. On the Republican side, I'd say Santorum and Chaffee are in trouble, while I expect DeWine, Talent, and whoever wins the primary in Tennessee to hold those seats. In Chaffee's case, it's addition by subtraction, but losing Santorum would definitely hurt.

Perhaps it's because they understand the typical dem is a knee-jerk follower and needs to feel part of the "majority opinion" to go out and vote?

Howard Dean is a dream scream come true!Heh! Fixed it.
Excellent article SL thanks for the ping. I especially like this:
"Dean has taken heat for spending so much money. Right now, that investment isn't looking very good and no matter what anyone says, we're nervous. Things were never as good as people were saying they were, and now the numbers are confirming that."
Give that RAT staffer a Kewpie doll for a moment of mental clarity. (HT, PJ)

No better analogy of this then the story of the upper west side NY liberal who, after Nixons presidential victory said, "I just can't understand how he ever won, I don't know a single person who voted for him"

"...If Dean doesn't deliver he will be crucified like no other person in modern political history..." If he doesn't deliver? In fact he did not deliver in 2002 or in 2004, unless I missed something.

I date this public whistling past the grave yard to Gore announcing a huge surge in poll number the week before the '92 elections.
I thought he was a pretty good guy up until then. At that moment I knew he was as willing to lie as much as Clinton in order to hoodwink us.
Terry McAuliffe did indeed create an artform out of bu11$hit. And a fortune out of an inside investment.

One of the crazy things the media does is promote the Democrats as likely big winners when they are not even close to being big winners. The are deluded by their own wishful thinking. Democrats and Arabs do have a lot in common.

Interesting bit of history.
Could it be that the Democrats peaked too soon this year?
