In a special session Sunday night, the political-security cabinet unanimously agreed that the Israel Defense Forces is to begin preparing for military steps aimed at securing the release of a soldier abducted in a pre-dawn attack that killed two other soldiers.

During the cabinet meeting, ministers Shimon Peres, Eli Yishai and Meir Sheetrit urged the IDF to respond with restraint to the attack. However, Olmert responded, "The age of restraint has come to an end... We will respond forcefully, with an operation that will last more than a day or two."

The Palestinian militants attacked an IDF post near the Gaza border, firing an anti-tank missile at the tank in which they were located. Shalit and another who was seriously wounded were also inside.

The cabinet ministers authorized Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz to determine when a military operation would be launched. The cabinet also agreed to continue employing diplomatic efforts and seeking international pressure to convince Palestinian militants to free the 19-year-old Shalit, who hails from Mitzpe Hila, near Carmiel.

However, he said that Israel's current focus is on Shalit, and preventing militants from taking him out of the Gaza Strip.

The IDF's Head of Personnel Directorate, Major General Elazar Stern, told the Shalit family that the soldier was kidnapped "on his feet," and is known to be capable of walking.

(excerpted) On Saturday, Abbas' Fatah party came to an agreement with Hamas officials that "resistance" operations would be limited to territories occupied by Israel since the 1967 Six-Day War.

Questions: Did the IDF ignore Shin Bet intelligence that an abduction was in the works?

What does "he knows how to walk on his feet" mean? Does that mean something special?

Will the Jellyfish actually do more than bomb some empty buildings and apologize for it?

What would be wrong with flattening all of Gaza? Sure, the "civilized world" would express it's criticism of Israel, but after awhile, everyone would realize that the world is a better place without the rabble in Gaza.

How about simply saying something like "Hey, you know, the electricity and water in Gaza will get turned back on when this guy is returned to us and the lunatics who perpetrated this outrage are hanged"?

I think they mean he wasn't injured beyond the ability to walk. Prayers ongoing.

I agree. Besides, would any other government on earth suffer such malignancy? Regardless of the 'outcry'?

I don't think any one knows if it was an intelligence breakdown. What I do know for sure is this would never have happened had the Jewish Communities in the Gush Katif been left in place. With Gaza's Jews uprooted, Israel has been deprived both of on the ground-intelligence in Gaza and the means to hamper terrorist movement around the Strip. But you will never hear Israel's leaders admit Sharon's move to make Gaza judenrein was a colossal blunder.

That is wonderful idea? Cut off all funds would even help crush the useless PA and start a civil war, which we can watch with popcorn and pop!

Major General Elazar Stern, told the Shalit family that the soldier was kidnapped "on his feet," and is known to be capable of walking.

It means he wasn't wounded as he was taken...and the IDF has intel it sounds like that he is still able to walk and hasn't been hurt.

Shin Bet warned IDF of militant plan to attack, abduct soldiers

The defense establishment had received a specific warning that Palestinian militants were intending to kidnap Israel Defense Forces soldiers on the Israel-Gaza border through the use of a tunnel, security officials told Haaretz on Wednesday.

After Palestinian militants attacked an IDF post inside Israel early Sunday, killing two soldiers and abducting another, Defense Minister Amir Peretz said at a cabinet meeting Sunday that he had been aware of warnings of militant infiltrations.

However, sources from the Shin Bet security service told Haaretz that the defense ministry had in its possession far more details than IDF officers implied in a press conference on Sunday.

Olmert, the Jellyfish, certainly appears to have created much of the problem.
He is more likely to attack some Jewish settlers or give the
order to ship Palis some WMD and guns.

"The age of restraint has come to an end."It's about time. That would be good advice regarding our efforts in Iraq as well.

"What does "he knows how to walk on his feet" mean? Does that mean something special?"

I read it to mean he's not severely injured...able to make his own way.

Recapture the victim and the kidnappers. Mail the kidnappers' private parts to their families. The KGB did this some years ago when they had a similar incident in Syria. (They had no further problems with kidnapping.)

From WND:

Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu, though, blasted Olmert's response to terror attacks thus far.

"[It was] hesitancy and paralysis of the Olmert government, that had spurred Hamas to launch the large-scale attack," said Netanyahu.

"The government and the prime minister are demonstrating hesitancy ... and the other side recognizes this. That's what happened today. They recognize it, and they continue, and they escalate.

"And the next time we must respond, it will need to be that much more massive, in order to pass their threshold of fear. Therefore, this was a fundamental error."

I fully support the Israeli's plan to "take the gloves off." They are dealing with pure hateful rabble and ought to crush it!! The Hell with the opinion of the liberal press; it will only last until the next sensationalist opportunity anyway.
