SEATTLE - Warren Buffett, the world's second richest man, is starting this year to give much of his wealth to charity, with the bulk of over $40 million in Berkshire Hathaway stock going to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In a letter dated Monday, Buffett, who is chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., tells Bill and Melinda Gates that the first annual donation would go to the foundation this year. It's expected to total about $1.5 billion.
Up until now, all the money given away by the Gates Foundation has come from Bill and Melinda Gates.
The money from Buffett comes with a signficant catch. The letter says Buffett wants all his money to be distributed in the year it is donated, not added to the foundation's assets for future giving. He is giving the foundation a few years to get used to the idea of giving away a lot more money.

Probably time to bail on B-H, Inc.
'Planned parenthood' is not about planning parenthood or the family. It's about exercising a woman's "right" in defiance to all who oppose. Even if a woman were to change her mind about having an abortion, PP would do everything they can to convince her that she should anyway. In fact I would say that PP would encourage women to get pregnant just so they could exercise their right to abort.
I, for one, commend you for your sensible commentary.
Your intent is laudable, but it is already too late. There seem to be very few Freepers left (at least among the active posters) who know the history behind your point, and in the general population the percentage who do is infinitesimal. Thus your post can only seem to most readers to just be weird or bizarre.
If the Internet and alternative media had existed in 1954 at the time of the Reece Committee investigations in Congress there might have been a chance to make a difference, but not now. The cultural and historical education of the citizenry has been so degraded that we no longer have a significant number who are even capable of understanding your point.
I read that PP makes so much money from abortions that any concept of 'Planning' is a joke. This liberal organization is apparently a staunch capitalistic organization - they have a product (abortion services) to sell at a profit-producing price and they vigorously market their product. Typical hypocritical libs.
I seriously had no idea. I thought PP was a non profit organization helping womens' cause.
Doesn't matter what you target it for; a few years after you die a bunch of liberal lawyers will hijack it and it will be funding queerfests. If you've got money to give, make sure it is spent rather quickly on what you want it spent on, or expect to be rolling over in your grave when the church you left it to drives out the likes of you and takes over all the real estate and endowments left to them by the likes of you and uses it to promote what you and your sorts used to call sin.
Except in the case of malaria. The foundation is mega-spending on a vaccine or other cure while ignoring the extremely effective solution while hundreds of thousands die of malaria every year.
That's so true. When run by the British, most of the starving African hell-hole countries were prosperous and net exporters of food.
But I can count you as one, then that makes two of us. Now lets inform the others.
We need a little of that North Carolina tar, so as to put it on they'uns heels to make everybody else stick better in the next fight for our Constitution.
Hey pal, sit on your thumb and rotate.
Ok,
so....................................................
does anyone care?
Seriously, what's the point? this guy can do what he pleases with his money, why should we care?
Linux bump
Should we care if he uses his money to undermine our country, like Mr. Soros does?
if Soros were a conservative, the SEC and DOJ would have gone after him years ago.
You do realize he also contributes to many Republican campaigns and causes.
