WASHINGTON, June 25, 2006 Three American soldiers were killed by improvised explosive devices while on patrol in Iraq in recent days, officials in Iraq said today. Separate IED explosions in Baghdad and Tikrit June 24 each claimed the life of one U.S. soldier. A roadside bomb explosion in Baghdad on June 23 killed another U.S. soldier.
Another U.S. soldier in Baghdad died of a non-combat incident June 23.
Names of the deceased are being withheld until their families are notified.
Coalition forces in Iraq are continuing operations to thwart enemy IED attacks, officials said. Iraqi forces captured three members of an IED construction cell during a June 23 raid in western Baghdad.
The captured cell members are believed to have conducted two IED attacks on coalition forces in the Baghdad area in March, and an April rocket attack on Baghdad International Airport. Five other suspected insurgents were caught up in the dragnet.
No Iraqi or coalition forces were harmed during the operation.

damn damn damn, There has got to be a solution to the IED threat somehow. Are not explosives very dense matter? Maybe someday we will have mobile equipment that can sense them in the road far enough away to make the difference.
I am heart sick everytime I hear of one of these cowardly weapons getting our heros.
When are the braindead civilians running this war going to let go of the reins and give it to the Military to WIN? Go into Marshall Law mode, shoot to kill anyone on the streets between 9PM and 9AM. Give written notice to ALL inhabitants, then bomb the country out of existence!
Their playbook - A battle of attrition.
"Marshall Law"
?
Who's Marshall?
Matt Dillon. He kept things right.
LOL! I believe it's named after George Marshall from his stategy used during the WWII (World War Two). :o)
You are soooo bad!
Thanks for the tip. For the record - Martial Law, but I think George Marshall did have something to do with it. It was a very long time ago, and this lady has been thinner and has been younger.
Thank you for the correction. I won't deprive you of your cookie after all, baddog.
Nope. The term is "martial law". You are thinking of the Marshall Plan; a plan for the rebuilding of post-WWII Europe put forth by then-retired Gen. George C. Marshall (and a largely quite successful plan it turned out to be).
"Martial law" is the imposition of law enforced, during times of great peril or general distress, by military forces.
Thank you for being so gracious. You are right, of course. Aside from my confusion, my original idea of Martial Law being put into effect in Iraq by our forces over there stands. Forgive my faux pas, please.
:o)
