Man reluctant to leave tree is shot, reportedly says, Ow, that hurt
BREMERTON, Wash. - A sheriff's deputy who was trying to get a man down from a tree shot and wounded him after mistakenly pulling a gun instead of a Taser, authorities say.
The deputy, a five-year veteran of the force whose name was not released, was placed on leave while Thursday's shooting is investigated.
Deputies carry both a Taser and a gun on their utility belts. The Taser, or stun gun, is similar in shape to the compact .40-caliber gun the deputy carried, sheriff's spokesman Scott Wilson said.

Well he did manage to get him out of the tree.
Interesting...
Don't you just hate it when you pull the wrong weapon out.
If the deputy had use the correct weapon (a .45) he would have knocked the outlaw out of the tree.
"Ooops, my bad!"
Ah, officer, you've been on the force for five years and you still don't know the difference between your tazer and your gun?
Just damn!
Sort of gives new meaning to the phrase, "Trust (you've unholstered the right weapon), but verify!"
Florida style.
Florida style.
"Wanted to get him down before he hurt himself." Well, a taser or a Glock don't really seem to be the proper tools. If shot with a taser, he would probably tumble out of control, possibly on noggin. Glock is probably better choice; a killing shot between the eyes wouldn't hurt too much.
Good thing he didn't get it confused with his cell phone. He could have shot his ear off.
MSNBC - Man reluctant to leave tree is shot, reportedly says, Ow, that hurt
If the criminal is "reluctant to leave tree", then the sheriff's deputy needs to consider that person as unstable and dangerous.
Would you ever be up a tree refusing to come down when the police tell you to?
The deputy had to keep an eye on the criminal in case he pulled a gun, and pull his own weapon, and make sure no child ran between them, and filter out the street noise around him, and... you get the idea.
You create an abnormal situation with the police and you get whatever you got coming as far as I am concerned.
If only he had a Beeber.
Does anyone actually believe this cop didn't know the difference between his taser and his pistol? If he doesn't he needs to be fired. I would bet he just got pissed and plugged the guy and then made up the story about not knowing which weapon he had drawn. What BS!
I've never handled a Taser, but I have difficulty believeing the weight would be anything like the weight of a fully loaded .40 cal. auto. They may look alike, but I can't imagine they would feel that much alike. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with experience with both weapons.
I was going to say that!
Good thing his bazooka was in the shop.
So the deputy was going to tase the guy in the tree. Good idea. Falling out of a tree lit up like a Xmas tree won't hurt anybody.
OOoooops!
