June 25, 2006 -- A Brooklyn anesthesiologist callously ditched his wife and three kids, leaving them homeless after he secretly sold their house and fled the country with all their money, the wife alleges. Dr. Raihan Chowdhury was deemed a fugitive Wednesday for ignoring repeated court orders to provide for his hapless family.
His wife, Sharmin Sultana, who gave up her career as a gynecologist to become a full-time mom, is now broke and staying at a women's shelter with the couple's two daughters and toddler son.
All while her husband lives in luxury in his native Bangladesh, possibly having remarried without getting a divorce here, according to her divorce documents and her lawyer's statements in Brooklyn Family Court.

I think that she would also have to re-do her residency. A friend is an MD who was originally from Russia, got her degree from St. Petersburg (not Florida of course). Took a few years.

Do you think for one second foreigners (Especially Muslims) care about the American Tax payer especially those in New York
They use and abuse an eager Affirmative Action System all the time

No, my point is that Federal authorities let this mug and his family in. When he skips town, he leaves local authorities (and taxpayers) holding the bag.

Knew a Lebanese guy who tried to pull that one--but it doesn't work like that in Texas.

Do you believe lying gives you credibility?I don't see a lie. I agree with him.
BTW, are you a family court judge? Your screen name is exactly what the domestic court magistrate told me to do every time I tried to fight for my son.

Why don't you give some examples of how women in America have the same rights as men in a Muslim country? o Can have a man charged for a crime with no evidence other than her word.
o Can sue for divorce under no/false pretenses (always granted)
o Gets the house in a divorce.
o Gets the kids in a divorce.
o Can beat a man and have the police arrest him.
o Has preference over a man for government job.
Shall I go on?

Other than part about government jobs, all the things you describe can just as easily happen to a woman as man. I certainly acknowledge that men do sometimes get the shaft in a divorce, and that our system is far from perfect. However, women sometimes get the shaft as well. So I don't buy your argument that men here have it nearly as bad as women in a Muslim society.
I haven't heard of any American men who were killed by their mothers or sisters for dishonoring the family by flirting with a woman, or who were stoned to death for siring a child out of wedlock. I also haven't seen any laws that require a man to have his wife's or mother's permission to travel or work, or that specify that a man's testimony is worth a fraction of a woman's. Show me something along those lines and I might reconsider.

Whew! I knew it would take more than a few months to get a medical license to practice in America.
Maybe she can go to nursing school. She could work her way up to a nurse practicaner(that looks wrong-but I did use spell check)?
I was reading the whole thread thinking about cab drivers, liquor store clerks, etc. who have professional degrees that are useless here.

You would want this woman as a colleague?
Did you read the article about her? Assuming it is the same person, she doesn't sound competent.
There are reasons why foreign physicians are unable to practice here until they demonstrate competency.

Comment:
If this woman is the same one that is named in the article then she would probably never get a license to practice medicine in the USA.
YOU SAID

I believe you may be preaching to the choir on that statement.

I have questions about the story BECAUSE
under the current law in most states, the domestic relations laws were changed just for this reason. EVEN IF she was not on the title, because he was married she would have had to sign off on the sale of the home.
She could literally "undo" the sale as defective and void as a matter of law. That leaves the buyer to go after him for a criminal act and her in a position for an emergency order for exclusive posession of the house.

This is especially true in Canada.
There may be lots of disagreement with the following statement so anyone can flame all they want.
Whether or not the Shamnesty bill passes on immigration there may in the future be a doctor shortage in the United States.
If the Shamnesty bill passes then that makes the situation even worse.
Studies have show that to turn a round a doctor shortage or overage takes about 12 to 15 years.
