LATE EDITION (CNN) : Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai; Sens. Joseph Biden, D-Del., and Chuck Hagel, R-Neb.; Iraqi Oil Minister Hussein Shahristani; former Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and Henry Kissinger.
I am totally not interested in Kidman's getting married or Jolie's having a baby, but the news babes and gossip columnists act as though we should be since they are. Bah.
"Did you say Hagel? Is Chuck Hagel really a republican?"
Some of you may be familiar w this site, but I just found it and think it's pretty cool. Here's a link to Chuckie's voting record by category and issues within each:
http://www.ontheissues.org/Senate/Chuck_Hagel.htm
Here are Hagel's and his fellow Senator from Nebraska's American Conservative Union Voting Records. I find this interesting in that many consider Nelson to be a moderate, so I thought his might be slightly higher, though it did go up 8 points last year over the previous year, probably because he's up for re-election this year. I also thought Hagel's might be lower for last year, given the way he talks on the shows (pseudo maverick or McLame-Lite), but it actually improved from the previous year by 9 points.
HAGEL
2005: 96
2004: 87
Life: 86
Yrs in Senate: 9
Nelson
2005: 60
2004: 52
Life: 53
Yrs in Senate: 5

Letting them talk, even unopposed, often is the best way to make our point.
Only Democratic Presidents are permitted to employ the full panoply of powers for protecting American lives. It's blackmail, pure and simple. Either let a Democrat into the White House, or we will continue to sabotage American security and, in effect, kill Americans. We will keep secrets when a Democrat is in office, but not a Republican. So we offer the American people a choice: Let the politicians we favor run the country, or we will help Al Qaeda murder you.
What the NYT is doing IS blackmail.
THIS DESERVES TO BE POSTED AGAIN AND AGAIN, FAR AND WIDE!
Your comment is as chilling as it is accurate. That is spot on right. And DEFINITELY does need to be repeated.
FNS was its usual well done program this morning. Every guest and panelist performed as expected, with the exception of Warner who seemed worse than usual.
Levin, wants it both ways. Cut & Run along with We Told You So. Tommy Frank said we would actively be in Iraq approximately 5 years, followed by a presence there of probably around ten more years. President Bush alluded to a similar timeline as the Iraqi government was established and the Iraqi police and military taking over duties the US military was doing. All of this is progressing along the lines set forth by President Bush, General Franks and statements by both the US military in Iraq and the new Iraqi government. (The only thing new is Democrats think they can take credit for something that was going to happen anyway.)
Warner, poor representative even if he is the committee head. (The Peter Principle is alive and well.)
Specter, said the Senate would not hold hearings based on one newspaper account. Sorry NY Times, youre not important enough to cause hearings. Also, Specter said there is no privacy expectation on bank records so they are not the same as the NSA warrantless wiretap. Immigration? Typically, he wants to find good illegal immigrants and separate them from bad illegal immigrants. (He must not understand the word illegal. I presume Specter does not think illegal is illegal. Reminds me of Bill Clinton definition of the word is.)
King: He wants to prosecute the NY Times. Sounds like bluster more than a serious, well thought out accusation. Immigration? Falls into line as opposed to amnesty and wants to protect borders. Wants hearings. Insists on secure borders first (YEA!) and crack down on employers (YEA!). King also admits he is poll driven. Not the preferred response from a responsible GOP representative.
Brit Hume: Prosecuting the NY Times cant be prosecuted saying its just not possible. We have to keep in mind, the news story the NY Times reported was initially disclosed in 2002, IIRC! President Bush specifically said we would be going after possible terrorist finances. We did. So what! The only real security problem today is it reminded our enemies of what our policy has been. Rather than the NY Times, I want the leaker prosecuted.
Me: The only new item I have heard was naming the SWIFT program specifically. For what its worth, I dont have a problem drying this up as a means for transferring funds. If nothing else, this could help stop funding by leftist US supporters. Admittedly, I have not read the story in the NY Times since I dont have any desire to read anything in the NY Times. As for transfer of funds, maybe Al Qaeda can get future funds from a Buddhist temple or two. Im sure Al Gore or Hillary Clinton could advise them.
YEA! Brit: The future drawdown is exactly what has been said over and over, expected and anticipated. This in NOT news! Even Mara admitted the Democrats are only looking of political points. Of course, Juan Williams equates any movement to political timing; but Juans opinion is just Democrat talking points cover for whats going to happen anyway.
Hey quit posting that stuff. It shows that Iraq is not a failure. :) You make liberals sad.
Surprising data SC, but that 's Hagel's 9 years. Don't you think he was a constant pain for Prez's & Republicans' image lately? I would trade Ben Nelson for Chuck Hagel anytime. Atleast Nelson would not betray republicans if he is one.
No .. I had the spelling right the first time
it is Kean

)snip)N.J. Senate Candidates to Debate Sunday
FORT LEE, N.J. -- New Jersey's U.S. Senate candidates, already exchanging political barbs months before the November election, will meet face-to-face for the first time in a debate Sunday.
Incumbent Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez and Republican Tom Kean Jr. have attacked each other's character since winning their party's nominations June 6, so ethics figure to play a role in their first debate.
The debate, being held at the Fort Lee studio of WNJU (Telemundo), will be aired live at noon by WNBC-New York and WCAU-Philadelphia, and re-broadcast Monday in Spanish on Telemundo at 5:30 a.m. The two men will meet for a debate again Monday night on the New Jersey Network.
Very interesting stuff. It's hard to imagine this is over a month old and it's the first I've read it.
BTTT
King is on our radio programs just about every day.
He is fully owned and operated by the union bosses here in NY.
Ports, run by the union thugs.
More money for first responders......IOW, money for union bosses in police and fire unions.
With King it's always follow the campaign donations to see where he's coming from.
It is in our own best interest not to get on the emotion driven bandwagon, no matter who is driving the wagon.
I suspect, Warner, like Specter, has a dem on his speed dial.
These old fools need to be sent back home, IOW, redeployed back to their own districts, PERMANENTLY.
Democrats are just showing how tough they can be.
I have been a bit surprised nobody asked about jailed Iraqi prisoners being able to vote in their elections. Since Democrats favor prisoners and felons voting here I just assumed Democrats would support it there.
Lieberman valued breathing too much to confront BJ!
Pray for W and Our Troops
I love that phrase and thanks for all the info you give us here, it's appreciated.
This might be a little over the top..
But I was reading AJ Strata at this link

I think we should use a new term for the Democrats cut and run ......
The Democrats want to ABORT IRAQ! They can't handle the responsibility and you know maybe Iraq is really an unwanted...country...why waste out time on something that may or may not turn out ....so the Dems say....lets Abort Iraq..
Now I think that puts it all into a complete nutshell!
I totally agree w you Rod!
Hope everyone is having/will have a great Sunday! Supposed to be 90 in Seattle today (previous record for this day is 87). That darn ol' Global Warming ;-)
Have a movie (Over the Hedge) and lunch (probably the Golden Arches) date w my 4 yo nephew today, so just popping in now - will try to catch up on the thread late this afternoon.
Speaking of Goldman Sachs. I hope all our side is happy now. Goldman Sachs is head of the consortium taking over the Ports from the British firm now in charge.
Great point, Morgan! Congratulations on a great day on last week's thread!
NASA director on Fox now. "The shuttle is not as safe as we thought it was, it is more safe than the naysayers say it is."
