Don't kid yourself, McCain is definitely running. You can see his miserable attempts to court conservatives. Don't think for a moment that he'd be kissing rightwing butt if he wasn't going to run.

McCain IS the media's candidate for the GOP nomination, that's a very important ally.If he is the nominee there will be essentially two Democrats running. The media can't lose.

Much can happen in the next two years, but I won't be surprised if McCain drops out at the end. He is playing the game now because doing so brings him more attention. If he realizes in a year or so that getting into the actual primaries will bring him less positive attention, he'll be out.
