Lost among the FR discussion regarding potential Republican presidential candidates for 2008, there is one candidate that conservatives should seriously take a good hard look at, one in which the RNC should immediately get behind as soon as he wins his re-election bid this year - Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue.
Brief Bio:
Born: December 20, 1946
Licensed pilot for 30 years
Businessman
Community leader
Sunday school teacher
State Senator
Majority Leader
President Pro Tempore of the Georgia State Senate
http://www.gov.state.ga.us/about_gov.shtml
"At the time [When he took office in January 2003] Georgia was in its worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and facing a $640 million dollar state budget deficit. Sonny immediately went to work reforming the budget process, setting priorities and cutting the waste. His efforts reduced the size of state government by over a billion dollars."
"Sonny also worked hard to get the economy back on track by creating a business friendly climate for Georgia's hometown employers while aggressively recruiting new investment from other states and internationally. In three years, he helped generate over 183,000 new jobs and over $6 billion in new investment in Georgia's economy."

That works to his advantage. It means that voters will see that he's just like you and me. The reason why VP Cheney is popular.

Sorry. My prediction to the board, not to your comment.

And on July 1, 2006 what may be the toughest child sex offender law in the country goes into effect here in Georgia. That would be a real bonus during a campaign.

That works to his advantage. It means that voters will see that he's just like you and me. It's not the conservative voters you need to worry about
It's the moderates who don't pay attention to politics

One of the reasons that liberals have a visceral hatred of GW Bush is that he is a southern conservative. He speaks with a twang and reminds them of religion, morality and patriotism. They HATE that, absolutely hate they. They can take a conservative, barely, if he's from the midwest or north (Reagan), and they don't mind a southerner if he's of the self-loathing kind that only pretend to be religious and southern (Carter, Clinton), but they cannot abide a southern conservative, especially one with a full on drawl.
Now me, I love to drive the libs crazy, so I'm all for Sonny Perdue or Jeff Sessions or someone like that being President. I don't think either of them is well positioned for it right now, and they'd need to be doing different things right now if they were interested in the job, getting a higher profile and working the party faithful.

I second that comment - who really wants a "Breck Girl" in the WH - other than some goofy hairy-legged gals on the fringe left?
