Wherever you go thoroughly check out the schools if you have kids. Some places are good but they are very, very few and very,very far between. Be prepared to hit the hip for private/parochial or home schooling.
Also, NC has a miserable tax situation but if you are coming from the NE it s/n be too bad. The property taxes in Charlotte are the highest in the SE. For a number of reasons I would stay out of Charlotte-Mecklenburg County if at all possible.

Yep. Oregon state handles the hiring of fire crews (normally through contractors) in the NW region, while the equipment like air tankers and such are supplied by the feds...

Nothing the lunatics, in charge of the PC state of Oregon, do really surprises me any more.
The state has been on a downward path to PC hell for about 2 decades now.
I think God that we had enough sense to realize how PC the the state had become in 1996 when I took early retirement. We had thought about moving to Brookings at that time or maybe Medford. Those cities/counties are basically conservative, but the lunatics lefties in Portland and Salem control the state.
Our older son advised us to subscribe to the Oregonian for a year before we decided to move. It took about 2 months of reading Pravda West to realize that they and the rest of the Oregon MSM were leading Oregon straight to PC Hell!
Our recovering liberal son will be leaving Portland sometime next month. He realizes that it is basically impossible for any business to survive in Portland unless they become a left wing organization and can suck off the tax teats to stay afloat.
We need to establish the State of Jefferson comprised of Southern Oregon and Northern Califonia north of the Bay Area and Sacremento. It would be a very conservative state, full of good people and workers in one of the most beautiful areas of the world. Without the lunatic control from Portland and Sacramento, the new state of Jefferson would thrive.

This is an outrage and I can't say it enough......whenever possible, we MUST start looking into filing RICO lawsuits against any entities (including employers and non-employers) who's policies ENCOURAGE illegal immigration. It would certainly seem to me that favoring Spanish over English and subsequently the loss of a job by an American vs. an illegal, is certainly worth looking into.
