RENO, Nev. - A fugitive wanted in the killing of his wife and sniper shooting of a judge arranged to turn himself in at a U.S. consulate in Mexico on Thursday but failed to show up, authorities said.

Darren Mack was believed to be on Mexico's west coast, and had been spotted in the Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas areas, Reno Police Chief Michael Poehlman said.

It was the most significant break in an international manhunt since the ex-pawn shop owner allegedly killed his estranged wife 10 days ago and shot the family court judge who had been handling their divorce case. The judge survived the attack.

Mack contacted Washoe County District Attorney Dick Gammick earlier this week "and expressed a desire to surrender," Poehlman said at a news conference Thursday.

The chief said investigators last communicated with him Wednesday, when he was believed to be in Mexico, based on comments he made and information the FBI developed. They attempted to negotiate his surrender, but he failed to turn himself in to the U.S. Consulate in Puerto Vallarta as he had agreed to do, he said.

"He would not tell me where he was," Gammick said. "We've never been able to accurately pinpoint him."

Problem is, facing a possible dp, Mexico won't deport unless the prosecutors take the dp off the table.

I believe that Mexico only pulls that nonsense with their own citizens. They have no problem deporting murderous gringos.

Yeah. Maybe. After 25 years on Death Row. After 3,987,598,344,969,086 appeals. After his book makes the NYT best-sellers list.

We don't have a justice system, we have a system of perverse legalities.

well I have to agree with you there.
WHen you throw that into the equation, it will be a long time. By that time they might as well just commute it to a life sentence.
oh you forgot one.
and after the MSM gives him an inteview with all the tv affiliates and an interview with ms. walters, then he might cease to exist.

He shot a judge. That makes it much easier for the death sentence to get carried out.

EXACTLY! We don't have a justice system, we have a system of perverse legalities. If we had a JUSTICE system, a death sentence would get carried out with equal ease regardless of whether he shot a judge or a wino.
