Discovery Channel produced a documentary that was a pretty detailed and convincing recreation of the possible events that would indeed cause the center tank explosion on Flight 800.

I'm all ears if anyone want to discredit that report, because until viewing it, I was convinced that this was clearly an act of terror.

If a 747's fuel tank is empty, the flight engineer will position that tank's fuel pump switches to OFF. The center tank was empty, and the flight engineer's panel pulled from the sea had the switches still in the off position.

The wiring on the pumps can't short out if the switch is OFF.

I personally know two eye-witnesses who saw a rocket trail arc up from the horizon then saw the explosion and the fall. They are both mature, stable people with no axe to grind. I doubt that any CGI illustrated theory would convince them otherwise.

When the front portion of the 747 was blown off it would have the effect of flat 20 foot flat plate in the wind forcing the aircraft to pitch up and the center of gravity of the aircraft would shift far aft. This would cause a violent pitch up of the aircraft. The wings would immediately stall and probably suffer structural failure and shear off. That aircraft dropped like a rock after it was hit or exploded.

And as a Physics major I laffed my a$$ off at the discovery channel 'documentary'.

Jet Fuel is simply KEROSINE. Go to the corner gas station, buy a gallon, pour it into a bucket, and toss in a match and watch what DOESN'T happen (an explosion)- or better yet, Do what I do about 10 times per year- pour it over a pile of wood and ignite it to make a bonfire. Nice and safe.

That is why jet airplanes are not blowing up left and right.

Try the same thing with gasoline (very explosive) and you better hope your health insurance is up-to-date.

How did it explain fuel pump wires outside the fuel tank causing and explosion INSIDE the tank?
