US Representative Katherine Harris visited a small gathering of local people at the H&F Restaurant in Jasper on Saturday, June 17.
"Small groups are more intimate - almost like family," she noted.
Rep. Harris is running against Senator Bill Nelson for a seat in the Senate. She addressed several key issues during the meeting, such as the need for tax reform and legislation to help small businesses and farms.
"Ninety percent of businesses in Florida are small businesses and we need to focus on them. I worry about farms and other agricultural aspects of business, too," Rep. Harris said.
Florida has the lowest unemployment rate in the country, according to Rep. Harris. Although there is still a need for agricultural and construction workers, using illegal aliens is not the solution, she added.
"I am totally against an amnesty program," emphasized Rep. Harris. She supports a program that would create a secure ID that would be required for employment and stringent protection of the borders.
Rep. Harris also favors the repeal of the estate tax, which recently failed in the US Senate.
As Rep. Harris concluded the meeting, she stated that she would come back soon to meet with concerned citizens again.
Thank you..... Suwannee Democrat newspaper!

Harris PING
Hi Julie, here's your TEXAS bump!!
McBride should do FL a favor and step aside and support Harris. He doesn't have a raindrop's chance in Hell of winning.
I agree!
I wish all the 'Johnnies come lately' would step aside so Jeb and the FL GOP wouldn't wait until after Sept. 5 primary to make their endorsement!
The FL grassroots are with Katherine.
Howdy, potlatch!
Did I ever tell you I was a Texan when I was a young mother?
The friendliest and best neighbors I ever had were in Houston!
Thanks for telling me Julie. How in the world did New York get 'friendliest city'??
Glad you are part Texan, lol.
By endorsing Harris, McBride's own political future ambitions will increase. You'd think he'd do the smart thing and step aside. He has nothing to gain by running and losing in a race that FL conservatives have made clear they support Harris. FL conservatives aren't going to support him in the future. He's nothing more than the RNC's version of a hail mary pass at defeating Harris.
US Representative Katherine Harris (FL) Campaign Update PING
Actually I was born in NYC....but I really didn't know what a 'friendly neighbor' was like until we moved to Houston!
