Santorum might be in so much trouble in his re-election campaign that he released the info against the wishes of the White House. The Secretary of Defense should be the point man on this, not some senator who is 18 points down in the polls.
What about Peter Hoekstra standing right there with him?
Being the bearer of truth is sometimes a dirty job but somebody has to do it. Santorum and Hoekstra will do.
It's a balancing act. Release the news and get more political support for the war, but it may cause terrorist to feel free to go popping off sarin packed artillery shells that kill tens of thousands. It's that President's call, not the senator's.
