Was this originally an NRA idea? Personally, I think its a great one!
At Michigan Tech Univ, we had a shooting range in our student's union building. IIRC, dorms had lockers so that students could keep their firearms for hunting & shooting too.

I competed against some college kids who were on a shooting team. It was at an NRA high power rifle match so they were all members.
Lately, the media was reporting on some Second Amendment Sister groups that were started at some campuses. Maybe basil can fill us in.
