I have camped out in front of George Bush's ranch, marched in rallies, lobbied Congress, gone to jail, and much more to stop the devastating war in Iraq and bring our troops home. Now it's time to do more.
Along with other activists and the peace groups Gold Star Families for Peace and CODEPINK, I will be starting an open-ended hunger strike, called Troops Home Fast, on July 4 th. We will start the fast in Washington DC, in front of the White House, and then move to Camp Casey (outside Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas) in mid-August. We hope the fast will galvanize public attention, invigorate the peace movement, build pressure on elected officials, and get our troops back home!
As a sign of solidarity, we are asking you to join us by fasting for at least one day. It could be on July 4, our launch date, or any other time during the summer. You can fast from wherever you are, or better yet, join us in Washington DC or Crawford, Texas. We've already received commitments from wonderful allies such as Willie Nelson, Danny Glover, Dick Gregory and Dolores Huerta, as well as military veterans, religious leaders, students, and women's groups.
Thank for considering our request to fast for one day as a symbol of your support for the Iraqi people and our soldiers, and your commitment to bring our troops back homeFAST! You can either contact me directly or my assistant Tiffany Burns at tiffany@codepinkalert.org
Warm regards,
Cindy Sheehan
Tony Campolo is joining her; well, well, well...
Oh heck throw ole Willie a joint so he will eat. He already look like a toothpick.
If WN is truly a part of this, then he will have some answering to do to his fans.
Not surprising to see the National Council of Churches involved in this as well.
I'd need to hear from Willie hisself that he's "committed" to this. He's managed to keep me from totally writing him off so far, although that gay cowboy song pushed me awful close to the edge.
It'll be fun watching Wailin' & Willie wasting away.
What Ever Happened To Peace On Earth
There's so many things going on in the world
Babies dying
Mothers crying
How much oil is one human life worth
And what ever happened to peace on earth
We believe everything that they tell us
They're gonna kill us
So we gotta kill them first
But I remember a commandment
Thou shall not kill
How much is that soldiers life worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth
(Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything weve been told from our birth
Hell they wont lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth
So I guess its just
Do unto others before they do it to you
Lets just kill em all and let God sort em out
Is this what God wants us to do
(Repeat Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything weve been told from our birth
Hell they wont lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth
Now you probably wont hear this on your radio
Probably not on your local TV
But if theres a time, and if youre ever so inclined
You can always hear it from me
How much is one pickers word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth
But dont confuse caring for weakness
You cant put that label on me
The truth is my weapon of mass protection
And I believe truth sets you free
(Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything weve been told from our birth
Hell they wont lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth
I'm not either. After all, when you help kidnap a child and return him (Elian) to the communist dictator Castro nothing surprises me. I think it was their plane (rich bunch of atheists) which returned him to Cuba.
