PRESS RELEASE:

Large Crowd Joins Paleologos to Announce His Cape Cod Campaign

Barnstable, MA

Phil Paleologos, a New Bedford businessman, was joined by his family and a tremendous crowd at the Mattakeese Wharf Restaurant to kick off his Cape Cod campaign for the Governor’s Council.

Phil Paleologos told the crowd of over 100 people that he was running for the Governor’s Council “because he wants judges, who will stand up for the rights of victims, not hardened criminals.”

Joining Phil at the podium was Barnstable County Sheriff James Cummings. The Sheriff endorsed Phil Paleologos’ candidacy and told the crowd he supported Phil’s platform of local judges who are tough on crime.

Former State Representative Tom George of Yarmouth acted as Master of Ceremonies for the event.

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by retired Air Force Brigadier General Jimmy Dishner of Orleans. Father Peter Giannakopoulos of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Barnstable offered a prayer.

Among the others joining the crowd of supporters were State Representative Jeff Perry of Sandwich; County Commissioner Bill Doherty; Registrar of Deeds Jack Meade; Sandwich Selectman Tom Keyes; Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Delegates Dennis Fonseca of Sandwich. Republican State Committee members Barbara McCoy, Robert Dwyer and Cynthia Stead were all in attendance.

Attorney Richard Schiffman and Joe Pace the respective Chairman of the Barnstable and Yarmouth Republican Town Committees were also there to support the campaign of Phil Paleologos.

Many candidates for elected office on the Cape also attended the ocean side event in Barnstable. Attorney Ric Barros a candidate for State Senate; Jeff Beatty a candidate for U.S. Congress; Will Crocker a candidate for State Representative from Barnstable and Dick Neitz a candidate for State Representative from Yarmouth.

Mr. Paleologos, 56, is married to Celeste (Barrett) Paleologos and together, they are owners of the Shawmut Diner in New Bedford. He is also a local radio and television personality and hosted a nationally syndicated radio show for nearly ten years.

Very active in civic and charitable organizations, Phil serves on the Foundation Board of the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center and has helped Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army, the American Cancer Society and the New Bedford Chapter of the Easter Seals, to name a few. For fifteen years, Phil was the unpaid volunteer leader of sobriety programs at the Bristol County House of Correction.

The son of a Greek Orthodox priest, he is also an active member of his church. Mr. Paleologos and his wife have three adult children, Andrea, Athena and Alex, and one granddaughter, Aleksis.

The Governor’s Council consists of an eight-member body responsible for approving or disapproving the Judicial Appointments of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, among other important duties. District One of the council is composed of 48 cities and towns within the counties of Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket.

I wonder if he's related to Constantine XI Paleologos, the last Roman emperor?

Phil tells me he's descended from him....

Thought you might enjoy this......

Some of Phi's friends wrote this parody for him.

(Sung with enthusiasm to the Irish melody of McNamara's Band)

"...And Paleologos Is His Name!"

The Massachusetts judges prove they live in fantasy
They're handing out their judgments based on pure insanity
But now a man has risen up to put them all to shame
He's running for Governor's Council...and Paleologos is his name!

He hails from old New Bedford, which is down the road apiece
He runs the Shawmut Diner and his parents came from Greece
And that is fine - 'cause we know he'll deliver what he claims
He's running for Governor's Council...and Paleologos is his name!

He's now been married to Celeste for 27 years
He has a loving family and they all are volunteers
'Cause getting him elected is their current common aim
He's running for Governor's Council...and Paleologos is his name!

He once was on the radio most every business day
"Good Morning" to America is what he used to say
While hearing him across the land brought monumental fame
He's running for Governor's Council...and Paleologos is his name!

I have one final fact to end this long anthology
That Phil excels at raising money philanthropically
He helps out all humanity; now, he could use the same
Because he's running for Governor's Council...'n Paleologos is his name!
