Gunmen Snatch 80 Iraqi Factory Workers

Updated: 16:11, Wednesday June 21, 2006

Gunmen have abducted at least 80 workers from a factory north of Baghdad.

It is believed to be the largest single abduction in Iraq.

The kidnappers struck as the workers were waiting to board buses home after their shift.

Five busloads of employees of the state-owned Great Victory factory at Taji were commandeered by dozens of gunmen in at least five cars, the officials said.

One source put the number of those kidnapped at at least 100 and possibly many more.

An abduction of this size can't help but stoke regular Iraqis into confronting and ending the rebellion themselves. They know who and where the insurgents are.

They are armed RightWhale far more then Americans are.

The problem is very simple there isn't enough policing forces in Iraq.

something has to get the Iraqi's motivated to strike back at these swine. I don't know what the breaking point is going to be - but I hope that the innocent civilians start to act by giving these barbarians no place to hide. I want to see them find them and bring them to justice....and I would like to see some brutal justice

How do you get 80 people to the 2nd location? There had to be tons of the armed men to pull this off. This is not making any sense.

First thought: test run.

What if they did it here by picking a "no guns" facility or any government office?

"In that situation, you don't go with them. You force them to open fire because the other option is probably worse."

I agree. Quietly arm the workers.

"How on earth would factory workers deaths help the terrorists cause. This makes no sense to me."

TERROR!

Who will want to go to work? They are in a last dicth effort trying to force people to look at the US as the cause of these acts. If the US leaves, they would be safe.

And the left will keep supporting the terrorists.

This a result of the new AQ leader, he wants to show that he can turn the tide in this war and that it is not over yet. He needs a body count and media attention and this kidnapping covers both.

It will probably not end well for the workers.

Both of those points are true. However, Americans would arm themselves in an instant if this were happening here.

In the same way that the media and the left wingers turned Vietnam into a disaster, and how the media and the Left has tried to take every war/military operation started by a Republican president and to turn it into Vietnam. You see how Senator Dick Turbin (Dumbass-Illinois) already turned the horrific death of two young soldiers into a bash on Bush. This, the same guy that claimed we were like Nazis, Pol Pot, or the Soviets - for turning the air conditioning on and off at Gitmo.

Would to God - and I mean this seriously - that same treatment (turning the A/C on and off) been given to those two soldiers, instead of what happened to them. I wish Turbin were up for reelect sooner than 2008. I want this POS out now.

Actually it is easier then one might think when you have 50 Madhi or al-Qaeda boys with heavy weapons who have freedom of movement and no security forces nearby.

That would solve a lot of problems. Speaking of which, I wonder if there are laws in Iraq about carrying guns. I would think that this is a place in dire need of mandatory guns in every adult hand.

A radio personality said we are ratcheting up to full war. It might be so in spite of the best efforts of all.

Iraqis are allowed firearms, but only for home defense. Outside the home firearms are not allowed.

Oooooh! Nice tagline! I'm gonna steal it for personal use elsewhere!

About your post - Don't you think it is more likely to have a John Wayne or Steven Segal in the bunch if they did this in America? We really resent being held hostage, and that size group breeds teamwork and risk-taking among free men...

Right here in the United States.

With America facing off with her bitter enemy -- the press.

Concealed pistols are allowed, but you are not allowed to have automatic weapons in public.

Based on how they celebrate weddings and other events, I doubt that guns are outlawed there.

Iraqi's need to have a NO TOLERANCE stand on this otherwise they will all be killed, as they work.
