Quote: "Actually, they did the same thing in Vietnam - only they were successful there, thanks to John F'n Kerry and his girlfriend Jane Fonda.

What you are seeing is the Dems applying the Vietnam formula to everything, now. It worked once and, on many accounts, it is working again with the dumbed down dumbbells who graduated from government schools."

The situation in Vietnam is different from the situation in Iraq for so many reasons. In my opinion the biggest reasons are 1) the Armed forces are all volunteer; and 2) Iraq is a theatre in the larger war with the Jahidists.

Finally, I would argue that the left's anti-war stance in Vietnam was the start of their downfall. But for Watergate, I don't think Carter even smells the White House.

This is different from where we started this discussion and from what you said. I wasn't comparing Iraq to Vietnam, I made the statement (in effect) that the left's strategy for defeat in Iraq is predicated on the success they had in turning the tide of public opinion against the war in Vietnam.

I would also that the left's position on Vietnam wasn't the beginning of their downfall. Rather, IMO, it was the Carter presidency and the clown parade of Mondale and Dukakis that followed that was the start of their slide down the slippert slope to the bottom. Clinton sealed the deal and brought forth a newer, nastier, meaner, more partisan, more socialist party. The likes of Dean, Kerry, Kennedy, Kucinich, Daschle, Pelosi and Reid have served only to drag the Dem party into deeper into the sludge and slime.

Flip, so correct you are, my friend.

Vietnam was the "living room war", however, the jihadists started the war on terror by "attacking the hive." .

The threat is far more personalized; and, this is why America-hating leftists (including many within the dominant media, Democrats in elected office, and government school teachers) do their utmost to minimize the threat perception.

Fast forward to today's revelation about psuedo-al Queda in Florida, and by golly, the average American's perception of terrorist risk rides a spike upward.

Rather than recognizing a palpable threat to our internal security and moving into a cooperative and serious anti-terror venture, predictably the Dems will quickly issue a series of BLAMES, and the media will soon relegate this most newsworthy issue to the back pages.
