WASHINGTON _ Belle Weaver is flying into the nation's capital Monday to receive an award for saving a family member's life. Before she leaves town, she'll meet with her congressman, accept a certificate and bow her head to receive a medal.

Stories such as hers, of heroism and quick thinking, are always inspiring. But this one has a twist, and not just because Belle is 3 years old.

LocalLinks
You see, Belle Weaver is a beagle. She used her owner's cellphone to call 911. Her owner, Kevin Weaver, 34, was in the throes of a diabetic seizure, lying unconscious on his kitchen floor in Ocoee, Fla., when Belle located his phone and chomped down on the keypad, triggering a call.

A beagle's sense of smell is many hundreds of times as strong as a human's.

More like billions. Dogs can detect chemicals in the parts ber quadrillion range (a million billions or a thousand trillions). At least that's as sensitive as the tests that are used to test the dogs so far.

Does anyone else think this beagle saw his owner was out of it and took advantage to try and chew up the phone? :)

Sure, you all love dogs that can dial three numbers. No one appreciates a cat that see her owner lying unconcious, dials a pet store, punches in the owner's credit card number and gets a bag of cat food delivered.

Rats. I didn't read the whole article. She was trained to do that.

My dogs, if they saw me lying on the floor, would run and raid the garbage.

My beagle would take the opportunity to swipe my breakfast off the table, eat my sunglasses, chew up some drywall, and take a nap in my bed.

I love my little beagle. 8^)

If my dogs saw me lying on the floor they'd immediately start performing doggie CPR by licking me and pouncing on me.

Hey, you didn't read the story. The phone was programmed so that the dog only had to dial 9. The phone did the rest. Now this story would REALLY be something if Belle dialed THREE numbers! LOL.
