GOP candidate seeks Schwarzenegger's backing But governor may prefer Feinstein over conservative

Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is leaving open the possibility of backing Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein for re-election, despite an impassioned appeal from her GOP rival, former state Sen. Dick Mountjoy.

Schwarzenegger surprised his Republican backers shortly after the primary when he said he would have no problem endorsing a Democrat for office this year. "If I like someone, absolutely,'' he said at a June 8 campaign stop in Antioch.

While the governor didn't name any names, Steve Schmidt, his campaign manager, wasn't quite so circumspect.

"Like most Californians, (Schwarzenegger) thinks Dianne Feinstein is a great senator,'' Schmidt said.

While Schwarzenegger has made a blanket endorsement of the other Republicans on the statewide ticket, he has pointedly left the Senate seat out of the mix.

The governor "has not made an endorsement in the Senate race,'' Julie Soderlund, a spokeswoman for Schwarzenegger's campaign, said Friday. "We have nothing to announce at this time.''

The governor's reluctance to back Mountjoy has made a tough campaign even more of a longshot. The 74-year-old Monrovia (Los Angeles County) resident only jumped into the race after Republicans failed to recruit a better-known candidate and finds himself running far behind Feinstein in the polls and the quest for campaign cash.

Boy, that's gonna smart not being able to vote for Moonbeam again, huh?

Boy, I've already said that once was enough. That and once for the peanut farmer convinced me that your demoncrap buddies are liars, frauds and, ultimately, communist scum.

I say you're voting for demoncraps. You sure campaign enough for them, you ought to be.

Obviously, it doesn't work with Rinos or their supporters.

Oh well, I guess Im just feeeling my youth. ;-)

To me this means the GOPers we need, plus the wishy washy, easily swayed, completely unreliable, often unwashed, middleground. They aren't GOP, but they're needed in the strategy to win.

So, these totally wishy washy unreliable unwashed middleground folks are here on FR? And they are swayed by freepers who criticize the Governor for implementing liberal policies?

I have no interest in dividing the GOP. I would like to see them unite behind the PLATFORM. When they jettison that platform and adopt principles more like those of the Democrats, they are the ones who have caused division.

"the CA GOP strategy base"

--
hmmm?
saw that on another thread earlier too..

looks like a talking point.. sniff sniff..

smells like a talking point too..

... intended to make a few conservatives feel guilty that they don't just blindly vote as they are told to,, and then forgetting that the squishy middle is also made up of a lot of moderate dems and indies that suckered for the Gub's Q factor and hype as well and now are a much harder selll as wel as they see that they have not one but two bad choices this November..

clothespin futures are up, way up in anticipation of election day.

yet it is a few here that get blamed for him being to unble to hold the base without deriding those he needs most and that he has peed on the most as well.

karma, it can be a real ball buster sometimes..

Or Bill Jones, for that matter!!!

Bill who? Campaign? What campaign?

I suspect that he was a fictional character. Fong wasn't available, so they just picked a name from a hotel register and dummied up an image in PhotoShop. The reason there were no Bill Smith...er...Jones TV ads was they couldn't get the animatronic robot up and running.

After all, why should the GOP put any effort into defeating such a popular and beloved Senator as Boxer? It's not as if there was any issues at stake.

Thank you, Dick Morris. Cynical triangulation strategy to get the power, because that's the whole goal. When you set up your political strategy to gain the support of the wishy washy, easily swayed, completely unreliable, often unwashed, middleground, all you get are wishy washy, easily swayed, completely unreliable, often unwashed, policies and governance.

... Ever do things to just try and keep folks honest?

Yes, and this is a dilemma. I've mentioned, a couple of times, that I'm unhappy with the CA GOP, with the gubinator, and with things in general. The faux-bull should have found my epiphany of a few months ago. I've saved it, I can repeat it. The gist is, we've lost. The demoncraps are exclusively and admittedly (in many cases) straight out communists. The sad truth is that the repubocrats are almost as infiltrated. Too bad, I thought living in dynamic times was supposed to be exciting, but it isn't. Its sad.

I should have read cowgirl's questions better. I am in favor of protecting conventional marriage and against everything in the homosexual agenda, just to clarify. Doesn't matter, though, I like it when she occupies the gutter.

Yes, Arnold should not discuss Feinstein. Not discuss Mountjoy and let the race ride out. I was a token candidate in 2002 and I scored 37.5% in a 31% Republican district Maybe Mountjoy will get 5 percent above registration and get some CRP state committee memberships.

RINO's will not vote for Mountjoy, kinda like how conservatives refused to vote for Tom Campbell in 2000. We just need a US Senate candidate that RINOS and Conservatives can unite for a change.

I didn't see this one since you didn't address it to me.

If you are against the agenda, how come you call others with similar views "Homophobes"?

Non answer. No surprise there.

You should buy a clue. I don't believe you. I think you are a fifth columnist. You will always turn ones own words against one in order to divide them from the ranks, and maybe even humiliate them, too. I don't even read most of your cut and pasted drivel. Giving you a sincere and honest response it a waste of time. Claro?
