OK folks, I got this in freepmail from CaPagrl. Time to pray:
Mr. Silverback,
I was wondering if you would mind pinging your prayer list for me today. I just found out a few minutes ago that there is a bed available for me in the Labor & Delivery unit and I will (God-willing) be delivering my new son today. However, this pregnancy has been filled with complications and I've had to switch doctors late in the game (literally yesterday) in addition to switching hospitals - instead of our local hospital, we'll be traveling an hour away to a major medical center.
My son is measuring rather large and my local OB refused to let me attempt a natural childbirth because of that fear. Two weeks ago, an ultrasound showed Logan (the baby) measuring 9 lbs., 1 oz. - and I was only 36.4 weeks along! Last Monday, the same technician meausured Logan at 10 lbs. 5 oz. (gulp!). My OB refused to induce me because he wouldn't even consider natural vs. a c-section. I refused a c-section because I have absolute faith that my body was designed for this and that my body would not grow a child too large for me to birth (this is, by the way, my 3rd pregnancy). Anyway, we went to the medical center yesterday and met with a new OB who ordered an ultrasound - this time, Logan measured at 9 lbs., 10 oz. meaning they would let me try a natural birth!!
So, I am thrilled and also terrified - my original OB has told me so many horror stories in his attempt to justify a c-section as the only option that I've been having nightmares all week.
Please ask your list to send positive labor vibes and strong prayers for Logan's health as well as mine.
I will certainly update you as soon as this is over and let you know how we made out (hopefully with pics as well!).
I really and truly appreciate it,
CaPagrl
If you talk to CaPagrl, tell her that it's fine to have a trial of labor, but don't resist a C if it's necessary.
It's true that our bodies generally were designed to deliver the little rascals, but occasionally a problem crops up, and that's what modern medicine is FOR. Maternal mortality with proper care has fallen almost to zero in the last 50 years, and there's a reason for that.
I went natural with no drugs because I had a VERY rapid labor with a very tall but very skinny baby - 6 lbs but 22 inches - but if she had been a short chunky ten pounder and trouble had developed, I would have CHEERFULLY opted for the C. As my labor coach said, healthy baby and healthy mommy are the goals, how you get there is a lot less important.
Exactly how big my first son was, 9 lbs 10 oz, delivered him naturally, piece of cake. Not comfortable but doable!!
Prayers!
Wow! Prayers for a healthy baby and mom on the way.
I agree. I had a c-section and a VBAC, and the c-section was easier with a quicker recovery time. Not that either way was a picnic, since both were over 9 lbs!
That being said--prayers up, and good luck, CaPagrl.
You had a very wise labor coach. Prayers are offered for this Mom and baby boy.
I pray that the birth is swift, painless and joyful for all involved. May Logan bless you, as your love for him has blessed all of us.
Prayers on the way for a healthy baby, a healthy mom, and a safe delivery. God Bless.
I probably should have had a c-section. My insurance didn't cover ultrasound at the time, believe it or not. My sister had big babies, the doctors insisted on inducing early, as much as 3 weeks. She was able to deliver without surgical intervention. A friend was scared into a planned c-section, mostly to help the doctor keep his holiday plans she found out later.
I had the same experience and you're the only other person I've ever heard say that. My first child was delivered via c-section (9 pounder) and my second one was a VBAC. The second one took much longer to recover from and the labor was worse than my first one (I had gone into labor before the section). So, when I was pregnant with my third child, I asked the doctor if I could have a c-section since I preferred those. He didn't go for it. He said that since I've proven that I can do it naturally, I had to do that. Boy, was I disappointed.
In any case, I do wish LadyNavyVet the best and can't wait to hear back from her as soon as she is able to post.
Oops! Sorry! You're not the one having the baby. It's CaPagrl, lol!!!!
God Bless! I'm bombarding St Gerard with prayers!
Prayers for a healthy baby and Mom!
the majority of their clients had babies that were over 10 pounds at birth.
And almost all of them were delivered at home.
His specialty was clients that had had C-sections in the past and he was very successful at delivering their subsequent babies naturally.
Some C-sections are very necessary, but the more affluent the area, the larger the percentages of C-sections. Dr.'s and hospitals make more money on them. Carmel is a case in point.
Good luck with your birth CAPagr1!
Prayers for a healthy delivery and big bouncing healthy Logan!
Don't worry about the C. I have had three of 'em. Recovery is not that bad!
Prayers sent.
Prayers offered.
Oh for goodness sake!! You WILL be fine.
My third child was 12 lbs. 1 and one half ounces and it was a natural birth and I, and more importantly, the baby were fine. My previous two were 9# 14oz and 10# 6oz and the two after her were 9# even and 9# 15oz. (I am a size 6)
You are absolutley correct in believing that your body is made for this.
That said, nothing wrong with extra prayers! I most certainly will pray that everything goes well.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
And no. I did not have a "wonderful" c-section. But it was MUCH less painful than labor and the recovery was faster.
She can do it!
My youngest daughter was 11-7 when born - the oldest daughter was 10-5 when born. Both were born naturally, without a C-section. Prayers and encouragement for her!
