Man Charged With DWI Twice Minutes Apart

SILER CITY, N.C. -- A Chatham County man was charged with DWI twice in a span of about 20 minutes early Sunday morning, authorities said.

The incident started when a man was stopped in Siler City for speeding and driving left of center.

A Chatham County deputy found evidence that suggested the driver was intoxicated and the man was arrested.

The man's car, a 1991 Honda Civic, was left at the scene. The 18-year-old driver was released into the custody of his mother.

About 20 minutes later, the deputy went back to check on the Honda and to conduct a follow-up investigation.

When he arrived he saw the same man driving away in the car.

The deputy stopped the man and arrested him and impounded his car.

Alejandro Salas Sanchez, 18, of West 2nd Street, Siler City, was charged with two counts of DWI and one count of driving while license revoked, among other charges.

Sanchez was then jailed under a $1,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Siler City on July 11.

SILER CITY, N.C.

As I recall, that's not very far from Mayberry and Mount Pilot.

NC bump. Now see, they need to be down on that end of the county instead of following everybody around as they do up here in North Chatham. Early Sunday morning? Pulling out of WalMart no doubt

Alejandro Salas Sanchez, 18,

I wonder if ole Fatso Teddy was on a junket in NC back in 1985-1986. Kid's certainly got the Kennedy genese.

Since he was released into the custody of his mother, doesn't she share some responsibility (and deserve some punishment) for letting him drive his car again?

Barney Fife was a dirty cop. He tried setting Otis up for a drunk driving bust but Otis traded the car for an ox and was riding that instead.

The 18-year-old driver was released into the custody of his mother.

Good reason for NC to put an automatic tow on the cars of drunks.

So will the mother be charged for aid/abetting, by putting a drunk back on the road ??

The mother should get a charge or two thrown her way as well.

It takes about an hour and a half to get there from Mayberry.

Siler City is where Frances Bauvier (Aunt Bee) retired.

I think a second conviction is some states carries a mandatory jail time sentence. Don't know about NC.

If by "not very far" you mean a couple hours' drive, then you're right. Siler City is just west of Pittsboro and southwest of Chapel Hill, in Chatham County.
